Jun wonders what could be worse - Nino going back to Stormfleet pregnant (what the fuck?), and on top of that, has just admitted to be carrying a litter of alien babies enough to replenish the Fijan’s race in one go, (it sure looks like that) or that their Chief Engineer Aiba is curious enough to demand how it all happened - but he’s at the point where he’s considering early retirement to rid himself of all this unwanted headache if he could.

Unfortunately, that’s not an option right now.

They all agreed that the Fijan drug, the Creet, has something to do with Nino’s condition - their knowledge of the drug is limited, sure, and only those that they could dig up along with the information Sho provided the first time the Fijan drug came up - but Nino insisted that’s not the case.

“If I understand it correctly, the Creet works just like any other drug of its kind, like a tranquilizer of some sort,” Nino begins, frowning thoughtfully. “The difference is that it also boosts the uh, the  specie’s sex drive once it’s taken, and at the same time helps counter the normal way a specie’s reproductive process works. It’s uh, kind of like a supplementary drug to the, uh, procedure.”

Aiba is twitching in his seat, obviously itching to ask the first question. Jun throws him a look and shakes his head, but Aiba simply ignores him.

“Aiba, no.” he demands, opting on calling Aiba’s attention since his death glare no longer works.

Aiba still ignores him. “Procedure?” he asks, eyes wide with curiosity. “What, like an operation? Are you talking about something that is similar to…to sex change?”

Nino hesitates. “Well…”

“No, not really,” says the Fijan this time around. Jun notes the way the alien’s hand alternates between rubbing Nino’s belly through the fabric of his shirt and squeezing Nino’s own. “You can think of it as simply adding an extra feature to the parts that are already there. Then it’s just a matter of tweaking them all to work the way you intended to, once the parts are complete. The Creet, thankfully, worked as it’s supposed to.” the alien says, pausing to give Nino a look.

“I honestly didn’t expect it to,” the Fijan follows, thoughtfully. “It’s difficult, coming up with the idea, and then the technology to support my wishes, especially when the procedure didn’t work on just any other species. I know, because I’ve tried,”

The Fijan’s eyes are a myriad of emotions as he stares at Nino’s face.

“At least until I found Kazu.”

“So, you’re saying humans - we people, to be precise - are the perfect match for this technology of yours?” Aiba asks, just to be sure. Well, it’s easy enough to understand the alien’s explanation - in theory, it’s as simple as tweaking Nino’s genetic makeup by adding him lady parts which are essential for bearing children.

Now, it’s the ‘how’ part that blows his mind, to be honest.

The Fijan simply shrugs. “I guess so. It did work with him, after all.” he says, eyes never leaving Nino’s face.

“So, basically, what he’s saying is you, Ninoi, is just a glorified guinea pig,” Jun pipes in, unapologetic, eyes focused on Nino. “One of the many, actually. I’m not sure whether to be glad that that questionable procedure worked on you, because, who knows what could have happened to you if it didn’t? Will you go to the discarded pile the same way the others did, either alive or dead, doesn’t really matter now, but one thing’s certain, Nino; he’d have ditched you too, just like he did the others.”

The statement is obviously meant to catch the alien off-guard, and long association with their Captain tells Aiba that it’s deliberately done to see how the alien would react. But to their surprise, it’s not the Fijan who got offended by the blatant accusation, because then Nino is shaking the alien’s hold off him and muttering something indistinct under his breath before he storms off, the rest of them ending up staring after his retreating back in combined astonishment and shame.

A long, awkward moment after, the Fijan speaks, his voice smooth and even, despite the terrifying glint in his eyes.

“That’s the last time I am going to let you insult me and my race, Captain Matsumoto,” the Fijan says, “Because it’s obvious that you have no idea what you’re talking about. To be honest, I have nothing to prove to you, nor I have to explain myself or my relationship with Ninomiya-san. But if you must know, I have not tried this procedure on just about anyone saved from Ninomiya-san. So, no, there is no discard pile and I most definitely never thought of Ninomiya-san as a guinea pig, no.”

“But did you just said you tried that procedure but nothing worked -”

The Fijan raises an eyebrow at them. “Are you saying you humans haven’t heard the concept of simulation? Don’t joke now.”

The embarrassment Aiba feels somehow doubles in size. “Uh, sure we have.”

The alien gives each of them a look. Then he raises his right arm without a word and lets them watch as his previously smooth, dark skin suddenly glows with marking that follows the path from the inside of the alien’s wrist, encircling the whole of his arm up until his shoulder.

“W-What the hell are you doing? What - What is that?”

The Fijan smiles. “They’re vows,” he says, “when I married Ninomiya-san.”
