(
10 days 8 hours 25 minutes - Day 8) It was four o’clock that morning when he decided he was completely awake to be lounging on his hotel room bed instead of doing something productive.
He’d showered and ordered enough coffee from room service half an hour later (instead of going down to take it at the breakfast lounge), throwing the hotel issue robe on once he’d toweled himself dry, thinking about Shino-san as he took his phone from where he’d stashed it when he woke up to call Sho. He didn’t mean to, not really, but he figured Sho would appreciate it if he did.
So he would.
To his credit, Sho sounded marginally awake despite having woken up quite suddenly.
“Nino, you okay?” was the first thing Sho said, bypassing the customary ‘hellos’ and making Nino smile despite himself. He took a hearty sip of his coffee and let Sho rumble worryingly on the other end about how he was expecting Nino to call the night before but didn’t.
“I turned my phone off because I was going to meet Shino-san,” he said, “but I did talk to Jun before I shut it off, he didn’t tell you?” he said when Sho finished, putting the almost empty cup down with a sigh.
He did, but he wouldn’t tell me what you told him, Sho said, sounding like he very much preferred it if Nino would talk to him straight instead.
“Well it was nothing important, really,” he said, eyeing the flaskful of coffee longingly. “I just told him to stop treating me like a goddamn child because I’m obviously not, and that he should stop taking our fans’ comments to heart. I’m twenty-eight, for fuck’s sake. I can very well take care of myself, as I’ve been doing almost half of my life now. In short, pretty much what I also told you before you left yesterday.”
Well, can you blame us? You’re the one who had to take this all-out-search-and-rescue-operation all by yourself business seriously, after all… Sho said.
He snorted. “I’d do that if I can, you know I totally would,” he said, already feeling the itch to contact Shino-san as soon as he could settling over his skin but he knew it would be silly. It’s too early, and Nino was well aware that the older man’s indulgence over the whole thing had its limit. And he wasn’t that stupid to fuck it up. “the only thing stopping me is the fact that I can’t hide this face no matter how hard I try to. You know how damn scary our fans are sometimes. I swear I don’t want to end up dead, at least until I’m able to find Leader. I can’t, I refuse to.”
Jesus, Nino… Sho grunted in response, stop saying stupid things, please. You’re so damn good at saying dumb shits lately; it’s kind of freaking me out. Please stop, for fuck’s sake. Anyway, are you even planning on telling us what is going on? We can’t help you if we don’t know what’s happening inside that head of yours, you know that.
He sighed, completely forgetting the fact that he had yet to tell his bandmates about the real reason why he was hell bent on staying here.
He checked the clock sitting on the nightstand, sighing deeply realizing that it wasn’t even six in the morning yet. Sho must have been really anxious to hear from him for indulging his stupid call this early.
“You sure you’re awake enough to hear me out?” he asked, as he himself was reaching over to fill his empty cup. On the other end, Sho snorted and murmured something about stealing Jun’s coffee hoping Jun wouldn’t end up killing him.
He grinned and took another hearty sip. “Good luck, then,” he said, then, “and you might as well make sure you’re sitting properly before I tell you these things, Sho-chan.” He said.
Nino, what are you -
“Would you believe it if I tell you I have been summoned here on purpose? To this place?” he said, voice careful. Sho remained quiet from the other end and Nino treated this as his cue to continue.
“I know this is going to sound creepy, Sho-chan, but I swear to God I have this feeling that Leader is somewhere around here, in this place. I’m not sure where exactly, but the hospitals are safe bets so I told Shino-san he should start looking there.” he said, wondering if keeping all the juicy and creepy details he’s here to himself was the right way to go but he figured he couldn’t risk saying anything that would make his bandmates doubt him, or something that would make him sound even more insane than they probably already thought he was. “And don’t even ask me how I know that because as much as I want to tell you, I can’t; please don’t make me, Sho-chan, please. But what I can tell you is that I am certain Leader is alive, but if he’s conscious, that is the question.”
But how did you know where to go? Did that phone call had something to do with all this?
He sighed. “Yes.” He said. “Everything pretty much started from there. It’s.. It’s confusing, I know, and I swear I’d explain it myself if I know what is really happening but the thing is, I don’t. I’m sorry.” He breathed, closing his eyes and wondering if that was really what he wanted to say.
For one, he didn’t like keeping things from his friends, not when everything about this was pointing towards finding their missing Leader but to be honest, he himself wasn’t sure if he was going to like what he would find here. He didn’t want to get his friends’ hopes up when none of this was certain to begin with, to break their hearts when being here, alone, and trying to find their Leader on his own was enough to shred him into pieces knowing that he might be wrong all along.
Sho was quiet for a moment that Nino wondered if he already hung up, at least until he was speaking again.
Nino, are you telling me what I think you’re telling me?... Sho asked.
He realized he was smiling despite himself at that. Trust Sho to figure things out just by listening. “I don’t know what you’re talking about, Sho-chan.” He said, but it was evident in the way Sho was chuckling on the other end, evident in the way Sho was mumbling something about him being jealous that Leader obviously loves Nino more than he loves the other members that Sho realized it too.
He’s telling you where to go, Nino… Sho said, voice tinged with barely-concealed wonder and amusement. He’s fucking telling you where to find him. I can’t fucking believe this, oh my god.
“Settle down, Sho-chan,” he said, wondering if his voice was shaking along with the rest of him. “relax; we still don’t know that.”
Someone called you, and only you…from a number that obviously hadn’t been working for years, from a place that none of us have ever traveled to; a place no one would ever think of searching because, let’s face it, Fukui is way too far from where they reported our Leader was spotted last, but that call changed everything. Goodness, Nino, this - Christ, I really don’t know what to say.
“You’re making it sound so damn dramatic, Sho-chan,” he said, chuckling, though it was only to cover up the way he himself was having trouble believing it too. It was by far the most baffling thing he’d ever experienced, and it didn’t help that despite how obviously romantic it all sounded, he still preferred it better without the theatrics.
He and Ohno could have just sat down and talked about all their encompassing and admittedly disgusting feelings for each other without all these dramas, for fuck’s sake. But as expected, everything in Nino’s life - good or bad - always came with a price. And this time, it was something he’d willingly trade every dime he’d saved up to this point for, if only to make sure he’d get what he bargained for.
To find Ohno alive and well.
He just hoped after all the misery he had to suffer in order to find Ohno, to confess, fucking finally, that it wasn’t too late.
He really hoped that.
Well, it is dramatic… Sho said around a soft chuckle. Who would ever thought Satoshi-kun is capable of it, seriously. I mean, as far as I know you guys aren’t even -
“I dreamt about him, Sho-chan,” he found himself saying before he could stop himself, his untimely and admittedly unplanned statement obviously stunned Sho enough to cut the other man off. “I didn’t see his face but I knew it was him, because I recognized his shoes. In my dream, he was brought into the Emergency and a lady doctor was there to attend to him. His clothes were drenched and he was unconscious.”
Oh God, Nino.
He closed his eyes as the memories of that dream rushed back in like waves, feeling himself shake at the possibility that he might be, God forbid, already too late.

It had been more than five hours since he’d hung up on Sho; he’d gone down briefly for an early lunch, and went back half an hour later thinking if he should head out for a bit or not. But he figured he could do that later. He thought of calling Jun or Aiba but decided against it at the last minute. He was in the middle of reaching for his DS when his phone rang then, and he was quickly snatching it from where he’d stashed it next to the AC remote, almost dropping the darned thing on his haste to answer the call the second he saw Shino-san’s name flashing on the screen.
“Hello?”
“Ninomiya-san, it’s me.” Duh, Nino wanted to reply that, but thankfully able to bite his tongue before he managed to and opted on rolling his eyes to the heavens instead as he tried to swallow his worries down.
“Yes, Shino-san, please tell me you have something for me. Good or bad, it doesn’t matter,” he said, then, like an afterthought, “but some good news would be wonderful, of course.” He said.
“I’m not sure if this counts as one but I guess you just have to hear it to know it.”
The guy sure know how to fuck him up because then Nino could feel the way his fingers were getting damp and sweat started gathering at his temple, his fingers shaking around their grip on his phone.
“Tell me.” He said, wishing his voice didn’t sound as shaky as he himself was at the moment.
“I’ve been to five hospitals already,” Shino-san said. “And let me tell you that I was honestly surprised when the descriptions you have provided about our missing guy are damn good enough for the hospital people to consider helping me, though nothing concrete turned up at first. It was easier than I had expected, checking each hospital for unidentified patients but it wasn’t until I got here, in Fukui University Hospital that I got a solid lead.” Shino-san said. Nino’s heart felt like it was well on its way out of his chest with how hard it was beating inside his ribcage.
“I did tell you to check that hospital first, didn’t I?” he reminded Shino-san.
“Yes, but I thought it was better to check one area first,” Shino-san explained. “Fukui University Hospital is in Eiheiji, you know? Saiseiki Hospital, Kosei, the Fukui Prefectural and Fukui Red Cross are nearest so I thought I’d go there first. When nothing came up, I decided to go straight here.”
“And?”
Shino-san heaved a deep breath first and Nino realized he was bracing himself without meaning to.
“I happened to talk to a nurse on duty here and she told me I had to talk to a certain Doctor named Risa Kishimoto because that’s the person I should be talking to,” Shino-san breathed, “and listen to this…” Nino did, heart pounding hard that it was getting increasingly difficult to breathe through it. “she said she was here that day, that she was one of the two nurses who assisted the lady doctor when someone with your exact description was brought in here the day after the earthquake. Unconscious, drenched clothes, bruised skin, and missing a shoe, and that the lady doctor was the one who treated the man herself.”
“Holy shit.” He cussed, unable to stop himself. That was Ohno and he knew it. “Where is that person now, Shino-san? Is he there? Is he okay? Is he alive, is he -“
“Hold on, hold on,” Shino-san cut him off, obviously wasn’t expecting Nino’s sudden outburst. “calm down, Jesus Christ, let me finish first okay?” oh God, oh God, how could this man expect him to calm down after what he’s told?
“Is he dead?” he countered, albeit in a small voice, unable to bite his tongue in time, voice shaking just like the rest of him and it honestly felt like there was an invisible fist squeezing his heart viciously. “Just tell me if he already is so I won’t have to -“
“He’s not, for fuck’s sake, listen to me first, will you?!” Shino-san yelled and it effectively shut Nino up. “He’s not dead but he’s not in this hospital either.” Shino-san grunted and Nino’s head felt like it was going to burst any minute now.
“W-What do you mean -“
“He’s not here. He’d been transferred to Keio University Hospital the day before yesterday.” Shino-san said. “The lady doctor herself had personally arranged the transfer and -“
“Oh. My. God. Oh god, oh -” he cried, knowing that at that moment, he had to fly back to Tokyo as soon as possible. “Shino-san, I’m hanging up! I have to call someone to arrange my flight back to Tokyo. If you can find more information about that person, where exactly they transferred him and why, I’d be really grateful. I’ll call you back in a minute, okay? Okay?” he said, hurriedly, not bothering waiting for Shino-san’s reply as he hit the End Call button and pressing the speed dial for his PA, heart beating crazily fast.
