So I seem to be getting a lot of lotto spam lately. Is this the new version of the whole Nigerian Email Scam?
It goes as this. I get an entirely random email from some 'International Lottery' claiming that my email address has won! (Nevermind that I never actually entered in anything)
I now possess ONE MILLION UNITED STATE DOLLARS, deposited in some foreign bank. (I've gotten three of these now, and the country is different each time)
I should send detailed information to them to claim my ONE MILLION UNITED STATE DOLLARS. They just want some simple things like my full name, my address and phone number, my occupation, age, sex, nationality, email address(!), country of origin, and my country of residence/work.
(Actually, now that I look at these again, two claim my money is in Thailand, the other in the UK. The UK one suffers from a terrible terrible lack of formatting, so it's kinda hard to read.)
Alas, there has been some mix up of numbers and names, so I should tell no one about this until my winning check has been sent to me!
Remember, ONE MILLION UNITED STATE DOLLARS!
...I'm kinda horribly tempted to respond to one of these, just to see where they try to scam me out of piles of money, but probably a good part of the scam involves getting all that info they're asking for, so I'm refraining.
Plus, I don't want them to actually target me instead of picking my email out of a hat.
In the subject of odd spam/scams, I got a variant of the Nigerian Email Scam thing a while back. I say variant because it wasn't actually based in Nigeria. I'm not entirely sure where it's from, because there is no formatting in the slightest and it's a bit painful to read.
The notable thing about this, aside from the lack of formatting, run on sentences, and green text, is that it opens with:
"I have a new email address!" in nice large non-green font. Followed by "You can now email me at:" and an email address. A few lines below that, it goes into the beginning of the scam in tiny green text.
"-Dearest,I am writing this mail to you with tears and sorrow from my heart."
Did I mention that there are no spaces between punctuation? It burns...
EDIT:
...although I guess I can't really complain about the green text.
