In the movies

Zodiac was a sack of old-school Serial Killer investigation boredom. The Illusionist on the other hand, was remarkably elegant. I've recently seen Pirates of the Caribbean 3 and The Simpsons Movie too but there's really not much to say about them except that right after these rather harmlessly entertaining films, 28 Weeks Later surprised me as unexpectedly a film capable of awakening strong anxiety as the plot progresses. Even the unrealistic splatter scenes didn't brighten up the atmosphere. Somewhere deep there were recent bird-flu scare fed fears of virus pandemic and fubar situation thoughts awakened by this film. The thought of a narrow gap of survival under extreme pressure between the raging infected and the uncompromised military force as time runs out is exactly where one doesn't want to be. But that's where your mind gets stuck with this film for long while. The important reminder of planning backup plans on governmental and individual level. Yeah, what should we do about asymptomatic carriers, huh? But the moral of the story is that the backup plans aren't going to work because even one complacency will ruin everything anyway. No happy end here, only anxiety. Paradoxically, Looking forward to the sequel, 28 months later.
