Most of my christmas shopping was completed today at the american way. I only wish they would use something besides the oil crayon stick thing to write prices on things...it's so smeary and hard to get off...even goodwill uses stickers, for christ's sake.
Accidentally picked up the latest copy of Adbusters and looked through it. I forget sometimes how stupid that magazine is and so I guess I need to remind myself why I hate people who agree with it's code of ethics. On the back cover was a cut out jesus mask and underneath it, "Buy nothing christmas"*. I like how it's all anti-corporate and free thinking and then it tells you what to do instead of letting you decide for yourself. So many causes these days are of that cut and dry nature, the it's all or nothing syndrome, and that is precisely what makes them so obnoxious. Why not encourage people to not buy from corporations at christmas? That's hardly not buy anything christmas, and you can still buy presents for people you love without the hipsters trying to make you feel guilty about it. I think how much more pleasant that magazine would be if it just told people to try to shop at locally owned stores and showed people how to find them instead of long rambling articles about 'teh evil corporate america' and consumerism. I guess if there is no anger then the college kids won't like it.
Think for yourself, young people of America. Don't listen to AdBusters.
*I assume this does not apply to the products available from
Adbusters WebStore, because everyone needs an anti-corporate "Trade in your Stars-and-Stripes for a Brands-and-Bands and declare independence from corporate rule." flag for $40.
