Monday, March 31st, 2008, is the last day to suggestion a name for NASA's GLAST satellite. GLAST (the Gamma-ray Large Area Space Telescope) is scheduled to launch in May 2008.
NASA won't name a satellite or mission after a living person. Since that is, unfortunately, no longer an issue in Sir Clarke's case, I suggest that anyone who is interested nominate one of the following 2 names for the GLAST:
ARTHUR C. CLARKE (for his contributions as a science fiction and technical writer; promoter of the ideas of geostationary satellites for telecommunications and of space elevators; and for his personal love of learning and adventure)
SENTINEL (in honor of Clarke's short story, "The Sentinel," which was the basis for the novel and screenplay "2001: A Space Odyssey," written in collaboration with Stanley Kubrick)
