this morning i ate toast for breakfast and had two cups of tea.
yesterday i drove around in the golden sunshine warmth for hours, buying art supplies & birthday hats made of felt & ate soup in the early afternoon glow.

i watched everyone eating lunch & thought about what they did in the way of work, about business people and the things they must think about. i looked out at the stretched-cotton blue sky and wondered if the owner of the café was thinking about the things that business people must think about, or about how beautiful the day was. it was only one-thirty in the afternoon, and i decided it would probably be all business until somewhere around four-thirty. i hoped the gentle weather would last until then so that he or she could enjoy it.

later in the evening i went to the book store and settled on brautigan, though i was struck by the usual terror as if it would be the last book i would ever purchase - perhaps bukowski or nin would have made me happier? but brautigan is full of life & surprises & the old familiar grey static hum of Everyday.

so the usual happiness settled in.
it rained
& i spent most of the night reading.
