browsed duarsloch's journal the other day...he had a link posted to a christian-white-supremacist review of that shitty marketing tool that people call the new star wars movie...
so i read this kid's journal, which featured diatribe after diatribe about jewish conspiracies and nigger inferiority...and posted as a comment to almost every entry was hippy shit along the lines of, "are you some kind of racist? i want to throw up."
guess what...some people are racist and they don't see it as a bad thing.
if you were talking about religion with a christian, would you say "what are you, a christian?" if you were talking to a republican, would you say, "so you voted for bush...you make me sick"?
answer "yes," if righteous indignation makes you feel better about yourself.
answer "no," if you are interested in changing minds.
insults are fun--don't get me wrong--but they don't change minds. if you want someone to realise how ridiculous rightist politics [or religion or the existence of nation-states or laws or racism or homophobia or whatever you think sucks] are, try discussion. when someone says american foreign policy is driven by the powerful jews and their sympathies for israel, you can't just say "fuck you idiot," you have to offer an alternative theory and reasons why that theory might be true based on something close to facts...an example. plant some seeds...dismantle lunacy brick by brick.
or if your nerves are on edge that day throw a few punches [which is impossible via the intraweb] and get it over with...it won't get you anywhere other than a place that feels better, but don't have any illusions about showing someone how right you are with fists and [pseudo]insults.
