Today it was announced that GACKT will again appear as Uesugi Kenshin at this year's Kenshin Kousai.
For the second consecutive year, GACKT will again play the role of Uesugi Kenshin at a festival in Niigata.
In Joetsu City, Niigata Prefecture, the birthplace of the Sengoku era warlord Uesugi Kenshin, it was announced that for the second consecutive year singer GACKT will participate in the Kenshin Kousai. In total, it will be GACKT's sixth appearance.
The announcement was made on June 13th by the executive committee of the festival. 18,800,000 yen has been set aside for costs associated with the festival, such as additional security. The Kenshin Kousai will take place on August 23rd and 24th, with GACKT appearing as Kenshin on the 24th for the departure to the front parade and re-enactment of the Battle of Kawanakajima.
In 2007, GACKT appeared in the NHK drama 'Fuurin Kazan' in the role of Uesugi Kenshin. In that same year, Joetsu City invited GACKT to appear at the Kenshin Kousai. In the year before [2006], 46,000 people had attended the festival, but GACKT attracted more than four times that number. In all of GACKT's previous five appearances as Kenshin, the attendance has been over 200,000 and it has become a big event for the city.
