On a TV programme, singer and actor GACKT visited Ikebukuro, a place he often spent time at during his days in the band MALICE MIZER. He spoke about his usual way of life and visited locations such as where he trains and the park where he wrote some MALICE MIZER songs. It is surprising that GACKT's well trained body is 40 years old, but what is the reason why he continues to train?
GACKT appeared on 'Ousama no Brunch' on 2/15 following the release of his new single 'P.S. I LOVE U'. With comedy trio 'Panther', GACKT strolled down memory lane in Ikebukuro and told them that “during my time in the band, I lived in this area with some of the member(s)”.
GACKT would often come to west Ikebukuro park alone and sit on the benches and playground equipment while composing songs. “I didn't need instruments. Inside my head, the melodies would become music,” he explained. “I wrote some good MALICE MIZER songs here.”
Now, GACKT has a dojo and exercise equipment in his home. Even as a 40 year old, GACKT's abs are well defined, he has no excess body fat and he is dedicated to his training.
“I train five times a week”, GACKT explained. “I always stretch, and then afterwards there is weight training and action exercises [this would cover his martial arts etc]”. Panther member Takahiro Ogata was surprised to hear that GACKT also does action training and asked for clarification, “aren't you a singer?”
GACKT calmly replied “I'm a man before I'm a singer or an artist. If you can't protect the woman by your side or the important people in your life, then you are not a man,” he stated firmly.
Ogata replied in shock “the one time I was in a fight, I ran away.” The group stopped by a gym in Shibuya for GACKT to demonstrate his kicks by kicking Ogata in the gut. “My leg will stop part-way, and then I'll kick you from there.”
Standing only on his right leg, GACKT lifted his left leg into the air and said “let's go!” as a signal to Ogata, and then kicked him by only extending his leg below the knee. It would be impossible to withstand such a kick without proper training. The kick was from a short distance and was only light, but Ogata exclaimed “this person is truly dangerous!” as he broke out in a cold sweat.
As well as the dojo, GACKT also has things such as a library lined with books, a recording studio and a Roman style large bath in his house. After doing some research before the show, the Panther trio asked GACKT to clear up some rumours about his house. “Everyone exaggerates. It's not that big, there are just a few unusual things,” GACKT said, “it's about 1200㎡, or the size of 400 tatami mats,” he answered. “I don't have many rooms because I'm claustrophobic,” GACKT said, which is also the reason why his rooms are so big.
Panther got more information out of GACKT and he explained that he loves to ski and snowboard, and after taking a fancy to a ski slope in Gunma, he spoke to the owner so that he could buy it. And, it seems that he has given this ski slope as a present to an acquaintance.
On Valentine's Day, February 14th, GACKT caused an uproar when he visited a CD shop in Shibuya. On GACKT's twitter account that day, GACKT spoke about the skier Aiko Uemura who had come fourth at the Sochi Olympics. He said “she competed with this country on her back. I have to say thank you. At this time I want to tell her, thanks for your hard work. It's been a long time since I've seen her.”
That is GACKT's great and cool style.

here A few notes on this...
This is a recap of his appearance on Ousama no Brunch on Saturday, which was posted in the comm
hereEven in the original Japanese, they aren't quoting GACKT word for word. Some of it is paraphrasing, other parts are rewriting his words to fit the flow of the article so the quotes aren't quite direct quotes.
The part about the ski slope was said after GACKT's segment, when the hosts were all talking in the studio.
And yeah, the photo they included is old and from the Silent Hill premier last July, but it's pretty so who cares...
