The new ballad “All for love” really means A LOT to me. Over the last couple of days I tried to figure out what it is that amazes me that much. Sure, the song itself is beautiful, the message simple, very true and inspiring. And we all still have those horrible pictures in mind, the big earthquake, the tsunami and then the trouble with the nuclear power plants. We all remember how our admiration for GACKT reached even higher levels when he announced his “Show your heart”-organisation. Many of us, Asians, Europeans, Americans and Africans went to the streets and collected money or raised awareness in an unparalleled act of sympathy and willingness to help. I felt that we were never that connected, never that united, never that “one” like during the weeks of the SYH-campaign. So of course “All for love” really speaks to all of us on a very deep emotional level. But I always had the impression that there was more about this song than you realize in the first place. It was only tonight that it finally hit me. This is just my interpretation of the song but just allow me to share it with you all. It is the chorus, those simple four lines that unite all the greatness and profound message of the song. A complete credo is hidden in those lines. Let me explain by looking at the lines separately.
Please feel free to share your opinion. I'd looooove to hear what you think!
Close your eyes
Those of you who’ve seen them live this year, did you do it? Did you close your eyes when Gackt asked us to do so? If you did it, you know that you reach a completely different level of awareness, a new intensity of being close to yourself. You are very aware of where you are and at the same time you lock even Gackt out of your field of view. You can still feel all the bodies around you, your own thundering heart, still feel the sweat running over your body, still hear those breathless gasps from people around you. But at the same time you are so close to yourself, almost as if you are completely alone with only Gackt’s voice as your companion. It’s a feeling of great affection and intimacy. When G asked us to close our eyes it felt as if he really was the older brother and I the younger sister, as if he really wanted to share a secret. “Close your eyes… and let me guide you.” I felt so much trust and love for him in these moments, I felt so safe and at home. I was just happy, profoundly happy.
Feel your soul
With this attentiveness and intimacy established we can now move on to the next level. He tells us to feel our souls. What does that actually mean? My soul is part of who I am; basically I AM my soul so how should I feel it? I am not separated from it at all. Or… am I? Am I aware of who I am all the time? Do I really feel close to myself, good with myself all days of my life? Do I actually know myself, my fears, my dreams, my hopes and sorrows? Do I actually listen to the faint voice inside of me that people call “intuition” or “gut feeling”? When was the last time I really fully concentrated on myself, shut the world out and just… yes, just felt my soul? Quite a while ago, right? And when we stood there during the shows, our eyes closed and allowed ourselves to really feel all the life, the complexity, the beauty of our souls… didn’t we just feel utterly whole, utterly complete, safe and at home? For me it was like a reconnection with my innermost being. I was just 100% present, aware and at peace with the world and myself. What an amazing gift.
All for love
This is the actual message of the song, although maybe “message” is the wrong word. He basically just states a fact. I realize only now that this sentence has two meanings: Everybody or everything for love. And yes, there is a huge difference between the two. It just doesn’t work if some people give everything for love. There will only be a change when also everybody does his/her bit. With this line he also tells us that he can’t do it alone. It’s his vision, his dream but we, all his Dears are an important part of it. During the shows our minds were so ready, our souls so open to receive this message that it went straight past all the fears and doubts, straight past all the “buts” and “ifs”. He planted it right into our hearts. Sure, we all knew more or less that love is the greatest force in this world and that everything is possible if you just follow it. But this “All for Love” is like a battle cry with which he made us his army, an army of love ready to fight for his dream as his devoted followers but just as well for ourselves, our families and friends. He made us ready.
Show your heart
We are just normal people, right? What do we know about fighting for love? What are our possibilities compared to his? He left us with a job without saying a word about how to do it. Well, that is actually not true because he gave us the answer right away. Be open, be attentive, empathize with those around you, don’t look away when you see misery, share your sympathy, just do some random acts of kindness, be the best person you can possible be, give as much love as you possibly can. Or, in just one sentence: Show your heart.
Those four lines… The first prepared us, the second opened us up, the third planted a message in us and the fourth showed us the direction to follow.
This is what makes this song so special, the amazing perfection with which those words were chosen. Gackt made us his once more.
