[James wakes up in an unfamiliar bed, in an unfamiliar house- with a very familiar-looking redhead sleeping next to him. He's scared to wake her- what if it's Lily? What if it's not?

The last thing I remember was being about to die. There's... nobody's survived the thing that was going to kill me, not ever.

If this is the afterlife I'm going to be horribly disappointed.

I'm fairly certain that this is not an afterlife. I, along with many other people here are quite alive. Though, I do not think you are the first to arrive here after death, or near-death as it were.

We have curses like that in my world, but they're not usually used for more than a joke. Somehow it sounds like yours was more... serious.
