Last night I got back from Acuna, Mexico with my church. We drove down to the border on Friday and stayed in a church in Del Rio, TX. Later that night we went into the town we'd be working in to see what needed to be done and meet the people. It's so easy to take for granted all the luxuries you have. The majority of the people there don't have running water, electricity, heat/ac, and many dont even have walls. It was amazing how excited the people there got when they saw us driving through. The little kids chased the vans, people were waving, it was great. We went back to Del Rio to sleep. During the middle of the night, i realized that my air mattress was sinking, so i climed into katy's twin size bed. On saturday, Katy and I went into a part of town called Los Torres ( aka: Cardboard City). The little kids did crafts, and we played games with them. Katy found herslef a little boyfriend! It's crazy how attatched those kids get in a few hours. They don't care if you can't even talk to each other, all they want is love and attention. Everybody there is so sweet. Later in the afternoon we wnet to the river bottom and gave out clothes and toys to the families there. Then, we went shopping. I got a little cross that hangs on the wall, some silver bangles, and a blanket (it was so cold in the room we slept in). That night, everybody went to Los Torres and we had dinner with the people there. The people there made food for us. I felt bad because we couldn't eat it, but I'd rather feel bad than get sick. We went back to the church in Texas to got to bed. On Sunday we packed up, and cleaned up the church. Then we went back to the river bottom. There was this huge pile of bricks, like cinderblocks that needed to be moved up the hill. We all got in this huge line and passed brick after brick after brick. I hurt my back, but at least I helped them. It was alot of fun. I meet new people and got closer to some that I already knew.
