More House

Ok, it's the moment I'm sure NONE of you have been waiting for...lol...time to see the inside of the new death trap.

I'm going to start as if you were walking in the front door and take you through.

Lots of water damage in this foyer area. Above this room is an old-style sleeping porch, with a low ceiling and a flat roof, which leaked like hell, damaging things all the way down to the first floor. I am taking out all of the walls and that door you see there (in fact, have already done most of that) to open up the foyer and two smaller front rooms into one big front living space. That door and the trim will be saved and re-used elsewhere.

Standing in the foyer, looking back at the front door. All that trim and the door is very wet and swollen. Hopefully it can be saved, but not sure.

This room isn't actually all that bad - just some peeling plaster and that horrible stone on the fireplace. That will be refaced, probably with used bricks, and get a new mantle, also hopefully salvaged from somewhere. Also the cheap poplar attempt a crown molding has to go - not sure what that will be replaced by yet. Any ideas?

Looking back at the foyer. That arch and the walls will be completely gone. I was really kind of torn about removing the foyer, because I do like a defined entryway, but it takes up WAY too much liveable space in a house I already want to expand by one third. I may keep a short half-wall coming out where the right side of that arch is, to the left as you'd be walking in the door, and tile the area behind it, just to define the entryway space.

Jeezus, listen to the way I talk...."just to define the space"...lol. I watch WAY too much HGTV...lol.

Anyway, your first glimpse of the interior...welcome to my hell.
