Sharing is Caring: Day 3

Sep 01, 2009 21:07

Hee, I got a good icon for this one! :) And being that all my books are packed up right now, I have to go from memory, so these are the ones that popped out at me.

Day 3: A Book (gotta live up to the title in the icon and give more than one):

The Time Traveler's Wife by Audrey Niffenegger
If you don't mind the broken ass timeline (and I do mean broken, into very jumbled pieces) this is one hell of an epic love. It is very sad though, tinged with sadness in my mind at least, I won't elaborate right now to avoid spoilers for ya, but  if you want to know why I think the whole thing is tinged with sadness, let me know. Anyway, as per usual, I liked the book more than the movie, but unlike some other 'books to movies' plots, this one captured the whole story, and put enough that the hardcore book lovers would enjoy it, and the fans who hadn't read the book would understand what the hell was going on.

The Notebook by Nicholas Sparks
This is such a great story, and the fact that it was based on partial fact on people he knew is moving. I had a Grandmother that had Alzeheimers, and the story is so moving, it goes beyond love to devotion and soulmates, and the fact that the kind of relationship they shared is imprinted so thoroughly  it surpasses such an illness (if even in little doses).

Big Fish by Daniel Wallace
I actually didn't expect to love this book so much, it kinda snuck up on me, after I loved the movie, I went out and got the book, so I did it backwards for once. It is quirky and fun, and tells the life of a man with fiction and a sense of humor. It tells the relationship of a father and son, and all of the things that can build a bridge, and then crumble it down because of the bond of family.

The Five People You Meet in Heaven by Mitch Albom.
This is one of those 'circle the good lines' books. I have a bunch of quotes I love from his books, he just has a way of saying things that gets to me. Also, I believe in heaven and hell, and I never thought that this would be what it  was like. I like things that make me see my world in a different way.

I didn't realize these were all books that got turned into movies until right now. Hee, just goes to show which I prefer :) So here's one that is movie free :) Well, at least I haven't seen a movie of it.

The Fountainhead by Ayn Rand

This is one of my old school faves (before Jared went all 'book learnin' and claimed it as one of his). There was a time, way back in the day that I was more mainstream than I am now. I actually cared about fitting in, and then I read this book. It completely changed my perspective, and though on the surface it is about an archetect and his 'integrity' in his work, it struck me as a story about a man, being true to himself, and damn what anyone else thought.

And one more, cause I can't seem to stop:

The Wedding by Nicholas Sparks
This is a follow up to The Notebook and I think it is at least equal to the story told in that. In The Notebook, they found their way to eachother and he gave her a map to find her way back every single day when she had forgotten it. In this book, it is different, it is about pulling your head out of your ass and doing something to find your own way back to the people you love (of course with the help of an ol' romantic like Noah...which is another reason I preferred the book over the movie they made of The Notebook, they fucked up the ending in the movie, and now this book (The Wedding) can't ever be realistically made into a movie...which sucks, it would make a great one!)
