the price of relaxation

$46. That is what it cost the wife and I to go to a movie today. That movie was Juno (more on that in a minute). That breaks down like this $14.50 for two matinee movie tickets, $7.50 two candies (it has been so long since i was at a movie, I forgot to bring my own), $3.50 for one soda , and $20 for 2.5 hours of baby sitting. It was worth it. The wife and I definitely needed some "us" time.

Juno was good. I don't know if it is Oscarworthy, I have not seen the other films. It was well written (if a bit affected), well acted, funny and touching. It is one of those movies (like Tucker, or Apollo 13) that makes me think, "With a little effort, every movie could be this good". It was not exceptional. But it was competently made, and you really cared about the characters. And no special effects. Unless a prosthetic pregnancy-belly counts as a special effect.

It is worth noting that my daughter has an amusing new tick. I once mentioned to her that she should say "excuse me" when she burps. Well, she talks really fast so she burps a lot. And every time she burps she says "excuse me, I burped". So when we are picking out dolls for an evening of playing, it sounds a bit like this:
So barbie is going to be the excusemeiburped Princess, and Brat is going to be the excusemeiburped mean girl. And then tiger can be excusemeiburped excusemeiburped Barbie's friend and excusemeiburped etc...

Maybe you had to be there.
