The December Holiday

Dec 13, 2007 19:07

Well it's once again that time of year. So here in Pittsburgh there was a brief bit of snow... the good kind, the I'm not turning to slush or rain or ice kind. The I'm going to fall lightly, and stay on the ground, and be crisp and then it'll be blue sky and the sunlight will reflect of the snow kind.

Then it turned to grossness.

So I'll be driving home in a week, nine hours in the car and then it'll be like Santa Claus and the Reindeer threw up all over the place it'll be so Christmas like... I don't think I'm prepared... at all.

Not only does it not feel like Christmas, even with all the decorations, and holiday music around. The only time I really got the deep sense of contentment that the Christmas spirit brings was I suddenly caught a piece of silent night on the drive in to work, unfortunetly my co-worker then changed the song, so there went that. But I'm trying. I put up my Christmas tree... in the window so I can see the lights when I get home at night. I went Christmas shopping for the toy drive at work, granted I left it to the very last minute but I participated. I make sure to include "Happy Holiday's" and "have a wonderful New Year" in my emails, but it still isn't quite enough. I haven't done ANY Christmas shopping, no baking, no writing of christmas cards (granted those will be to past employers and professors so they don't forget me when I want them to write me a recomendation but still), and very limited singing of Christmas carols (it was required so I'm not sure that counts).

So it 7 days when I get home my mom will have the cookies baked, all her presents bought (maybe not wrapped), been singing christmas carols for the past month and a half, have at least 3 Christmas trees up and decorated (that's a conservative estimate), all the candles in the window, and it's a wonderful life playing (assuming the Kheifer returned it to her and maybe even if he didn't), siting on the couch doing a crossword. And my family will be their, Ron, Sheila, Caoimhe, David, Heidi, Tina, Grandma, Grandpa (maybe April if all the stars align). And grandpa will be telling a story, David will be torturing the Dog and she'll be loving it, Meg, Tina, and Caoimhe will be causing some sort of mischif, and they'll be hugs and laughing.

Then it'll be Christmas.
