Memory meme.
Songs, what they mean to you. Etc!

Song - Artist - Album

1. No God- The Germs- MIA (The Complete Anthology)
Reminds me of last semester because that's when I first really got into the Germs. Reminds me of Liz who appreciates the name Lorna Doom as much as I do and went so far as to name her mp3 player that.

2. Mandy Goes to Med School- The Dresden Dolls- Yes, Virginia...
Reminds me of Liz and of Katie. Slightly more of Katie because the first version I heard of this song was a live rendition she sent me once. I wish I still had it...

3. Angel- Aerosmith- Permanent Vacation
Ohhh late middle school. Kelly's favorite song because it is the QUINTESSENTIAL eighties power-ballad. Carolyn and I and our Aerosmith obsession days. The only fun bits of middle school, really.

4. I Love You- Sarah McLachlan- Surfacing
Dating Joe in sophomore year. He had a MAJOR Sarah McLachlan thing going on at the time and this song always made me think of him.

5. Happy Working Song- Amy Adams- Enchanted
AHAHAHA. This past winter break. Hanging with Cory, Corey, Brendan, Lauren and Mark at the mall. Then Tanya sending me the movie and soundtrack when I was in a crappy mood 'cause she's awesome. Then watching it with Izzy and showing Ali for the first time. Yelling at Idina's bangs walking back from the cinema with Carolyn.

6. Dreaming My Dreams- The Cranberries- No Need to Argue
Long car trips to Canada with my family between the ages of birth and twelve. We had four tapes we always played: No Need to Argue, Everybody Else Is Doing it so Why Can't We, The Joshua Tree, and Dummy.

7. New York- The Sex Pistols- Never Mind the Bollocks, Here's the Sex Pistols
Coming to NYC with my LC for the pointless historical tour. "You better keep your mouth shut, you better keep your mouth shut"

8. Alison's Starting to Happen- The Lemonheads- It's a Shame about Ray
Ali. It tends to be the general reaction. Everyone falls for her in one way or another, as a friend or as more. It's just who she is. Though that last bit is unlikely ("Alison's getting her tit pierced, Alison's growing a mohawk").

9. Judy is a Punk- The Ramones- One of the two best-of albums I have
Liz. This was my first Ramones song and she sent it to me, along with Beat on the Brat and I Wanna Be Sedated.

10. Roosevelt Petrucius Coleslaw- Anika Noni Rose, Tonya Pinkins- Caroline, or Change
High school. Ranting and raving about surrealism and Tony Kushner and enjoying really strange really depressing shows. David Miller going "Evenin' Caroliiine" every time he saw Caroline from our LC.

11. Come to my Garden/Lift Me Up- Rebecca Luker, John Babcock- The Secret Garden
Last summer. Secret Garden with Cory and Paigebrother doing it. Freaking out with Paige in a joyous way when Michael did it on pich and in key.

12. Lullabye- The Dixie Chicks- Taking the Long Way
Also last summer. Joe gave me the CD and it was glorious. Such a comforting song. "How long do you wanna be loved?...Is forever enough, 'cause I'm never ever giving you up"

13. The Rain in Spain- Julie Andrews, Rex Harrison- My Fair Lady
Leslie because she loves it so. Also being a kid and watching the Leslie Ann Warren version of Cinderella. There was a trailer for My Fair Lady with Rex and Audrey Hepburn and that one bit of the song always stuck in my head. And reading Miss Witherspoon by Christopher Durang.

14. Far From the Home I Love- Julia Migenes- Fiddler on the Roof
Attempting to teach Moira to sing. She's not very good, but she can actually get this one out okay.

15. Plump- Hole- Live Through This
Broph, Emily K, Bridgers, and any other friends who have ever had an eating disorder/severe body image problems. "They say I'm plump, but I throw up all the time..."

16. Tales of a Scorched Earth- The Smashing Pumpkins- Mellon Collie and the Infinite Sadness
Childhood. Late high school. Being all sweet and adorable and then plugging in the speakers: "I lie just to be real, I'd die just to feel"

17. Somebody to Love- The Jefferson Airplane- Surrealistic Pillow
Getting to college and FINALLY being able to go full-out hippie.

18. Tragic Kingdom- No Doubt- Tragic Kingdom
The nineties. When FNX was playing music I loved. When Gwen Stefani wasn't doing HP commercials. Having the most depressing music of any third grader ever. "They pay homage to a king whose dreams are buried in their minds/His tears are frozen stiff; icicles drip from his eyes/Welcome to the tragic kingdom"

19. Quiet- Irina Petina, Barbara Cook- Candide
Me and Carolyn lounging on my couch and/or her couch and loving Patti and Cheno. And singing along. 'Cause we're amazing.

20. She Came in through the Bathroom Window- The Beatles- Abbey Road
Junior year of high school. Durn spurred a major Beatles phase, which he does for everyone. Also, baking cookies when little when Dad would put on Abbey Road or the White Album on our old record player.

21. Front Row- Alanis Morissette- Supposed Former Infatuation Junkie
Freshman year high school, in my major Alanis phase. Loaning Moira all my CDs and having her come out an Alanis fan. Infecting Emily with my music.

22. Intermediate Jesus- Porcupine Tree- Signify
Meeting Fultie at Dan's and having him think I'm stoned. Watching Aqua Teen Hunger Force and discussing the glory of said tree of porcupines.

23. My Blue Heaven- The Smashing Pumpkins- Thirty-Three
Reminds me of one of those scifi shows where they show a flashback of something unpleasant with the pleasant music and the ominous backnoise.

24. I Know Things Now- Danielle Ferland- Into the Woods
Christie, Lauren and Izzy. All the people I sing this with :-)

25. A Part of That- Sherie Rene Scott- The Last Five Years
Luisa ranting, me purchasing. Sharing it like a virus. Connecting with Lauren by singing Goodbye Until Tomorrow at Titanic backstage.

26. Lithium- Nirvana- Nevermind
Mom's old car. Depressing third grader. FNX. Glorydays. God, I forgot how much I loved this song.

27. Class- Chita Rivera, Mary McCarty- Chicago
Charlieee! Singing along in his car with the volume turned all the way up. I sing Mama, he sings Velma. It's great.

28. Going to California- Led Zeppelin- IV
Late nights/early mornings in Winthrop of all places...it just fits. The sense of melancholy. The idea of leaving because there's just nothing left where you are and having nothing but a vauge sense to guide you to your destination. "Ride a white mare in the footsteps of doom, trying to find a woman who's never never ever been born."

29. Find Your Grail- Sara Ramirez- Monty Python's Spamalot
Summer '05. Broadway freakouts with Carolyn for the first real time. Singing along with my sister. Saying "Sada" over and over again.

30. Dreamboat Annie (Reprise)- Heart- Dreamboat Annie
All my female friends, plus LittleMatt 'cause he shares my love of Heart.
