How did things catch up with me so fast?

I realize most of my group (group C!!) won't get around to reading this before class tomorrow since it's nearly 10:00 on Sunday night, but nonetheless, I'd like to write a little something for the benefit of said group, to be read whenever you guys get around to it.

Hiii *awkward wave*, my name is Laura, and Lorelei is my online alias to keep away all the stalkers. But I also think it's a pretty name, and not too far of a stretch from my own, so feel free to call me whatever makes you happiest. I'm a second year student at York, majoring in English, and I'm taking this course because I love the english language, and creative writing in many forms, and poetry in general. In the 12th grade I had an extended love affair with Samuel T. Coleridge. I hope we get into some really interesting poetry this year... unless I'm heavily mistaken (which I have to admit I have this sneaking feeling I might just be), we didn't have anything on the syllabus to have read for this Monday (the 19th), so I will make a brief comment about another poem I have read recently... 'Howl' by Allen Ginsberg. This was part of another class I'm taking, Contemporary Lit. Now that's a pretty lengthy piece and I don't expect you to read the entire thing, but... well... it's a really intense poem which I barely even understand yet myself, I think I'd have to read it a thousand times to understand half of what's going on there! But I kind of like that about it. I hope that after reading through it a few more times, and discussing it with my class, I'll be able to get it... even just a bit.

I realize all that has nothing to do with our class, but I wanted to have something to say that related to poetry. "yacketayakking"... now that's a word. I love the frantic feel you get from the vocab and the format of that poem... you can tell just by glancing at it. It's so angry and frustrated and also... free? Wow, I'm really rambling by now, I don't even expect anyone to still be reading. I'm so sorry! haha. Free-verse type and Denver... it mentions Denver a lot... I'm noting resemblances to On The Road (Kerouac's novel), which we also read for Contemporary Lit. this week... yay for linkage. Linkage is key.

So who else has absurd amounts of readings to do? It's only the beginning of the third week. How did things catch up with me so fast? I must be out of shape.

Love,

Laura-lei   =)
