So, I had my appointment at the MRI on Friday and it went surprisingly well, in spite of the three-hour wait. I have a pre-operative assessment booked for the 7th April, and I'm due to have the rod removed in around three months' time.
As it stands, the rod itself has moved slightly, so rather than being sat beneath my knee-cap, it is resting beside it. Whenever I kneel or bend, the crunching/grating sensation is it rubbing against various ligaments. Nice. Elsewhere, two of the three bolts have become an issue; the ankle bolt has perforated the fibular bone, and one of the upper bolts is no longer flush to the bone, so it is effectively poking the inside of my skin. I was presented with two options from Mr. Ellis - either put up and shut up, or have it removed. Naturally, I voted for the latter as it would, to some extent, round off the whole ordeal nicely.
I'll be in Hospital for two days after the operation, and will be half-weight bearing on crutches for a further six weeks. Fortunately, this is over summer, so the worst of it is that I'll struggle with a job. However, I'm looking into financial aid over the holidays, so that's for another time.
Otherwise, the risks presented to me post-op include: a small chance the leg will break (there'll be three points of weakness where the bolts have been removed), that I'll contract MRSA or some other jolly exciting superbug and that I'll experience tendon damage. All three I am very aware of, but it's really not that bad. I just want to be pain-free and able to use my leg more.
In other, less exciting news: I am nearing the 2500 word limit of my essay, and am still battling against the question of class conservatism and radical gender relations. ARGGHHH.
