okay, now the real update about the dance.

i was one of the first few people there. then ace, guhin, matt, and a couple of other losers showed up. no one really started dancing until later...

fuck this, only the last half hour mattered.

so the last slow song was Stairway to Heaven. All eight minutes of it. That was too perfect for words... and I'm not talking about myself. Then we were all getting ready to leave, sitting out in the hall, and I think we all felt pretty emo. I was just about to walk out when Good Riddance came on.

I associate so many things with this song. Adam has played it at the last campfire for the past two years, when I have to say goodbye to him and Becca and Rachel and anyone else I'd gotten close to... but there was always next summer. I'll see all of them in eight days. This is irrelevant. Then this year Jonathan taught me how to play it, probably hating every minute. I've probably listened to it a hundred times and played it a hundred more...

We all sort of went back into that gym-thing where the dance was, and Ace and Vika started dancing again, and people kept giving me hugs, it was all sort of a sweaty blur. I think I started crying, because my eyes were all red and my mascara was running (wouldn't want anyone to think my eyelashes were gross!). It just sort of hit me all at once.

suburban sprawl and
alcohol and
what's the use in anything at all when you
can't remember and you
can't forget and you
want to change but you
haven't yet, and we all
turn back
in the end
and we all
turn back
in the end
i couldn't wait to
get away from
all the things that I
love to hate, like the
kitchen table, the sewing room
when it was finally over it
was too soon, and we all
turn back
in the end
and we all
turn back
in the end
suburban sprawl and
alcohol and
what's the use of anything at all
when we all
turn back
in the end
and we all
turn back
in the end
and we all
turn back
in the end.
