it's funny to look at the freshmen and think "wow, that's how lame I used to be".

Except, I think I was a lot younger when I went through that "awkward stage".
Take a look at the freshmen, even sophomores, who are all into that

goth/scene-but-not-really-gothic/scene-because-i-get-my-band-Tshirts-at-hottopic-to-make-people-think-i-go-to-alot-of-shows-and-unicorns-and-reptiles-are-totally-cool-because-they-are-so-BIZARE-except-not-at-all-because-that-phase-died-out-two-years-ago.

I went through that stage in 6th grade. 
And its funny, because the girls in my spanish class look at me thinking 
"She will never understand the TRUE meaning of what it is to being SC3N3".
And its funny because I can totally relate to them because I had those same thoughts.

....in 6th grade.

It's just weird to see as the years go by, the less the maturity level is rising.
