i read the news at work (it's technically part of my job), and came across this article:
Mixed-race patients struggle to find marrow donors.
I don't talk about being mixed-race that often*, but this kind of, well, struck a nerve? and i know there are a few of you reading this who are also of multi-ethnic backgrounds, so maybe this is vaguely important to youse too.
one of my friends to whom i sent this directly sent this link back to me:
http://www.marrow.org/JOIN/Join_Now_Special/Marrowthon09/join_now_mt09.htmlThe bone marrow donor registry is offering free online registration right now. I'm about halfway through the process myself. I can't tell anyone else what to do with their bodies, but if you're a beautiful and unique snowflake like me you may want to consider it.
I hope it never happens (hell, i _hate_ physical pain, and i'm led to believe the donation procedure isn't exactly comfortable), but i'd rather be there for someone, especially if nobody else can.
that's my proselytization for the day. thanks for reading.
love,
