BOOK REVIEW
CLOCKWORK ANGEL - CASSANDRA CLARKE
A WELL DESERVED 5/5 FOR THIS AMAZING STORY!
OH MY GOD this book was SOOO good! The characters and the fantastical world that Clarke created were entrancingtly addictive!
I felt like I was a part of it, looking in at all the different creatures and elements that were written on the page. Everything was so descriptive that it was so easy to imagine being there. And with all the mystery of who "The Magister" was, I found myself just as easily fooled as the charachters themselves were. I couldn't believe that De Quincy wasn't the leader. I thought he had been. Even though I knew Mortmain was far from innocent...I never actually thought that he was the guy in charge
Then what shocked me even more was the fact that Nate had set Tessa up. I never thought for a second that he was evil. I had felt so bad for him too...I had assumed, just like everybody else in the novel did, that he was completely innocent. Then thre he is kneeling at Mortmain's feet, worshipping him. I felt like I was suddenly transported to an alternate reality or something. And then when he tells Tessa she's not his sister and that she's a "Thing" I felt like slapping out all the brains he has left in that tiny little noggin
And then there's the developing love triangle between Tessa and the two shadowhunters, Will and Jem. It seems like what she feels for Will is more like a passionate wildfire, while her feelings for Jem are more comfortable and heartfelt. I don't know if I really prefer one over the other because I love them both but after what happened at the end...I'd really her rather be with Jem because what Will said to her was just unacceptable. Hurtful, actually. He was so cruel I just felt my heart breaking right along with Tessa's.
The automatans were the freakiest part of the book for me. Just the way they were described as moving like clockwork and their eyes... oh I just nearly panicked everytime one of them came at Tessa and her friends. Especially since the first time they faced off with them, it was almost as if the things wouldn't stop reviving because they're machine...not human or any other creature. The fact that the magister wants to make demon versions of that little clockwork army...really frightens me.
I really love Tessa's ability...even though there's still doubt she's anything but warlock...her shape-changing power is just so awesome! Even though it was a horrible way for her to learn her power....it is true that the Dark Sisters trained her well. I just wish she had been taught by someone who didn't beat and imprison her...it might've actually made things a lot simpler for the poor girl. As soon as she had escaped...she had been compeletly against changing ever again. I was relieved when she put that thought behind her and used her power anyway to help the Institute, Charlotte and Henry mainly since their the ones running it. I do hope that in the next book Tessa is able to persuade the Enclave to not assign someone else the institute. I don't think I could stand Charlotte and Henry just being kicked out like that. Hopefully Tessa's innocent charm will win them over.
This is Book One of the Infernal Devices series...so there are more books after it if anyone is interested in reading this series. There's also "The Mortal Devices" which is the same world only with seperate characters. I believe those were written first. I do reccomend them...and I will be reading more of them soon. I am so excited to read more and I am very anxious to see what Will needs help from Magnus for. The way they left it...I'm very curiouis!
