BOOK REVIEW
ONE FOR THE MONEY - JANET EVANOVICH
I just can't help it. I have to rate it a 5/5!
This book was SO hilarious! I had seen the movie first and loved it so much that I knew I had to read the books. I was pleasantly surprised at how much funnier the book is because of the added details they couldn't fit into the movie and the details that they probably wouldn't have been able to pull off in the movie...like the singed eyebrow thing. I don't think it would've been easy to shoot Katherine Heigl without eyebrows. It would have been very unsettling.
Besides the humor, what really did it for me for this book was the main character, Stephanie Plum. She's quite a character and she proves to a lot of people that she's not just a pretty face. Of course, there were a lot of stupid things she did while hunting Morelli...but there were a lot of smart things too. She learned fast and I loved how she caught him in the end. It was so funny him being locked in a freezing cold refrigerator truck..then storming out, rambling like a crazy person in front of the cops. If I didn't like his character so much I probably would have said he had it coming.
Then there's Ranger...he was pretty awesome! They portray him very differently in the movie though. In the book he's made to look more rugged and motorcyle rider-esque. In the movie he looks more like a cop than a bounty hunter. It's okay though cause I like who they picked for Ranger in the movie. He's hot! Anyway the character of Ranger knocked my socks off. I loved him so much but felt very bad for him getting shot by that weird car theif. And then after that you don't even see him in the rest of the book. Depressing.
Ramirez creeped me the hell out. He was even more crazy, psychotic and freaky than they made him in the movie. He was so psychotically insane it was really hard for me to read his lines without wanting to vomit. What he did to Lula...I really felt like my insides were going to upend something.
I won't say I was surprised at how it ended because I saw the movie and I already knew that Ramirez wasn't the only bad guy. But I was a little surprised that they moved the scenes around differently in the movie. Instead of Morelli getting driven off before Alpha shows up...in the movie Alpha shows up and Stephanie shoots him in self defense and THEN locks Morelli in the truck and drives him down to the station. It was all backwards.
I am very glad I decided to read One For the Money even though I had already read the book. I would have missed out on a lot ot awesome jokes that weren't put in the movie. Although I am glad they chose cupcakes over pizza in the movie cause cupcakes sound so much more tasty to me than Pizza.
I definitely plan on reading the next Stephanie Plum book, which is called "Two For the Dough" in case anyone reading this is new to the series. I'm so excited because this time I really won't know the ending! It'll all be a surprise! YAY!
