BOOK REVIEW
MAGISTERIUM - JEFF HIRSCH

BOOK RATING: 4/5

Science fiction has always been an interesting genre to read. Not only does it stretch the imagination but it makes you question the world you live in and how it really came to be. I like that this book sort of one upp-ed the usual science fiction tale and made a world back in time when people worshiped Gods and then paired it with the futuristic world where nobody believes in Gods or even one God whatsoever and made their worlds collide. Then there was the appearance of 813, a planet newly discovered that is like Earth but slightly different. It was like a minefield of worlds but it became clear for me right away that I was going to love this book. While I did not want to give it a full rating because the story for me seemed a bit too short and could have been drawn out longer and not jump from situation to situation without much follow through, I still count it as a book that I'm happy to have read.

I very much wish that Glenn and her mother's Affinity didn't cause them to become crazy monsters because their power is so immense that they could easily protect their home without having to rely on the rest of the Magesterium to do their work for them. But I feel that Glenn will eventually solve that problem...if there are more books. It doesn't seem like the story is finished but I've been wrong before.

Sending her mother to 813 was the smartest thing that Glenn could have thought of regarding the issue of her mother's madness. While it must have been difficult to do, it would have been more difficult to go to them leaving her people defenseless. Glenn did exactly what any other princess would do for her kingdom. Sacrifice her happiness with her family for the greater good...even if that meant taking a giant leap towards madness herself. I believe Kevin will be her anchor though, their love will keep her grounded.

I'm very anxious to know how the Colloquium plan to use the bracelet as a weapon. The bracelet's power is sort of still confusing to me so I'm not sure how they intend to use it but obviously Glenn needs to get it back. How, that's the difficulty. That is another reason I think there will be more than one book. There are too many loose ends for it to be over.

I am more than happy to reccomend this book to everyone. Go ahead and read it, even if you are not a fan of science fiction. It's so different from anything I have ever read that it feels like it belongs in a class of its own. So pick it up and I guarantee you will enjoy it!
