BOOK REVIEW
THE JOURNAL OF CALLIE WADE - DAWN MILLER

BOOK RATING : 5/5!

This book had all the components of a true classic and I found myself unable to put the book down until I was finished. It was heartwarming and also very inspirational to one who has suffered many losses in their lives and what made it even more inspirational is that it was based off of real stories; bright lights at the end of seemingly dark tunnels. The book captured the raw authenticity of the era of The Gold Rush and the American Peoples' strive and determination to cross untold hell to get there.

The character of Callie Wade sort of reminds me of myself in a way. She puts up a brave demeanor in front of her loved ones but on the inside she's breaking with each little hardship they suffer but with Quinn there...it gives her added strength and it was wonderful to read the way they both brightened each other's lives and gave the other a reason to keep on living while so many others died.

The death of Rose really affected me. The whole journey Callie's family took was to bring Rose to a doctor in California that might be able to fix her...but she died before she even got there. Callie's Pa dying a hero was out of nowhere and shocking but it most certainly didn't affect me the way Rose's death did. Probably because Rose was just a little kid and it seemed way too drastic a thing to happen when they were so close!

I also loved how the author of this book saw the good in each and every character...even if they were scallywags. She redeemed Zach Koch. The one guy that ever tried to do anything murderous or decietful to another human being and Callie Redeemed him. It just goes to show that everyone has a chance at redemption and that it's never too late.

I give this book a strong five out of five because it was one of those stories that you could talk about for generations! I am very eager to read the other book she read about Callie's brother, Jack who in this book had left to be by himself right after Rose dies. I reccomend both of these tales to anyone reading this review. Dawn Miller is a truly inspired novelist!
