BOOK REVIEW
CITY OF FALLEN ANGELS - CASSANDRA CLARE

BOOK RATING : 5/5!

City of Fallen Angels was definitely a big change in pace from the previous three books. Since Valentine died in the book before, I was unsure exactly how a new evil would come about but I knew it would have something to do with Sebastian...that much was obvious. Lillith, mother oaf demons, makes an appearance. She is extremely creepy and definitely earned her title. The snakes coming out of her eyes will probably haunt my nightmares forever. When she is defeated, I thought her plan wouldn't end up happening no matter what...but unfortunately the part of the plan that had been set in motion before she was killed made it to where Sebastian was able to control Jace through the Rune mark that they both had been given so he could wake him up from death. The end was definitely an extremely frustrating cliffhanger. I don't want Jace to be bonded to Sebastian! It's not fair!

Simon's Mark of Cain reaks a lot of havoc in this book, especially on Lillith. Anyone who harms him explodes and turns into salt. Sevenfold, I do say that would be about right. The biblical aspects throughout the book are interesting and this one in particular...Lillith being the first wife of Adam...not Eve...and being cursed by God to be barren was actually pretty interesting. In her anger she created demons with her blood . But it seems in the end, God's wrath and power won out because the Mark of Cain destroyed her!

There's a lot of references to the Clockwork series in this book. This series was writeen before Clockwork Angel so it was more like a foreshadowing for most readers but since I sort of read the Clockwork series first, it was like referencing. Jem is in this book as the Brother Zacharaih. I love the part where he goes up to JAce and tells him if he had only seen him once he would've known he was a Herondale and not a Wayland or Morgenstern. Because Will was his parabatai, althought he doesn't mention that in City of Fallen Angels.
Through Magnus's memories while he talks with Camille he thinks about Will and Tessa, without actually saying much about them but if you end up reading the Clockwork series first, you'll know. I really hope that Tessa might make an appearance in the last book although I doubt it. It's more likely it'll be only Jem and Camille that will be in the last one.

So the guy who turned Maia into a werewolf finally makes an appearance. Jordan Kyle. Those two definitely have a lot to work out now that Maia knows the true story of what happened to Jordan and why he didn't come to her after he bit her. I don't see why she didn't right away run into his arms after knowing the true story. Some people can be so stubborn. I would've run into his arms right away and apologized for thinking the worst. It really wasn't his fault that he bit her...he had just turned and didn't know what he could do and his anger at seeing her with someone else made him attack. Before he had been bit, Maia knew he was a sweet guy...she should have known right away that there was something going on that he couldn't control. That kiss in the end was epic but it sure did take her long enough to do it!

Jace drove me absolutley nuts in this book. He was so self-deprecating he made me just a little bit nauseous. He and Clary should have told the Clave right away about Jace comi8ng back from the dead but instead they kept it a secret which is how Jace ended up being controlled by Lillith in the first place. All the nightmares he was having about killing Clary could have been avoided if he told someone about them...but he told Clary way too late and before that pushed her away to the point where I actually believed he was going to break up with her. He was so broody I just wanted to shake him! Especially at the end when Clary destroys the rune on his chest and he wakes up realizing everything he's done for Lillith... he acts like it was all his fault and nobody will ever forgive him just becusae he was raised by Valentine. In my opinion he needs to get over that crap because he is nothing like Valentine!

I love Simon and Isabelle's transformations throughout City of Fallen Angels. I really couldn't understand Simon in the beginnning trying to be with both Maia and Isabelle at the same time. To me, it was obvious he should be with Isabelle. Even though she puts up a whole bunch of walls to protect herself from being hurt, Isabelle is totally in love with Simon and he really should have seen that right away. Yes, men can be so dense. Especially teenage boys.

One thing that confused me about Camille helping Lillith but also needing Simon for some other reason that didn't involve being controlled by Lillith was that she hadn't even known Lillith wanted him for the ritual. Yeah, it was ironic but now it's really getting to me that Camille doesn't explain why she needed Simon in the first place. Lillith wanted him for his Daylighter blood, and Camille seemed to want him for the Mark of Cain but the particulars have not been mentioned yet. Probably a resolution for the next book. I want to know what the heck she needed him for!

That also brings me to the fact that Alec annoyed me just a little bit too in this book. He got so jealous of the fact that Magnus has had many flings in the past because he's lived for so long that he didn't stop to think that maybe Magnus for once wants to find a way to be with Alec forever or till death do them BOTH part. It got to the point where he let his emotions effect his own personal safety and instead of telling Magnus where they were going, Alec just jumped into trouble and they ended up losing Camille because he let her sweettalk him into letting her go with promises of telling him how he could be with Magnus forever. She didn't even come through with her promise, which really wasn't all that surprising. Alec really should have known better

City of Fallen Angels is definitely the best of the series so far. It has the whole package including an insanely frustrasting cliffhanger that makes one immediately eager to pick up the next book. The shadow world is one of the few fantasy worlds that I would love to be in myself. Like the Harry Potter series, it never disappoints!
