BOOK REVIEW
CLOCKWORK PRINCESS - CASSANDRA CLARE

I give the final Infernal Devices book a SHIMMERING GOLD 5 out 5 stars!

What a wonderful ending to a spectacular trilogy. There was so much heartbreak and joy that went hand in hand to cause my reader's brain to be well satisfied! I love that I got to savor this book because with every action that happened on the page it was impossible not to take in every detail. The first thing I love about it was that even though Tessa loved both Will and Jem and had been fighting her conflictiming emotions throughout the whole series, in the end she was able to spend a lifetime's worth of love for both of them. I had initialy expected it just to be Will because they seemed like the endgame but as it turns out, both boys got their share of Tessa. It was so wonderful seeing the joy on Tessa's face when she saw Jem at the end after Will had died of old age and she was still around, feeling lonely. She was finally able to love again. So sweet!

I am glad this book resolved the issue of Tessa's creation because that had been bugging me the two books before. I hadn't expected it to be revealed yet because I hadn't known at the time I started reading it that this was the end of the series but I'm very glad my mind was eased. I was gonna tear my hair out I was so eager to solve the mystery. Mortmain and his wickedness turned out to be his undoing in the end though. She changed into Ithuriel and killed him. It was the perfect touch of irony!

One of the most shocking things that had happened in the book was Jem's supposed death. For chapters and chapters I kept feeling despondent over Will losing his parabatai but Jem didn't really die, he had just become a silent brother. That turns out especially good in the end because The Silent Brothers are immortal and when he finally finds the cure to Yin Fen he is able to be with Tessa many decades after she had lost Will.

I felt really bad for Jessamine when she died. No matter what evils she had comitted against the Institute in Clockwork Prince, she really is a good person and she proves it by not only giving Will the key to finding Mortmain but also after she dies she stays as a ghost to protect the institute. She could've ascended to heaven but she instead decided to stay to protect those she had wronged. So honorable in the end.

What was so frustrating was how The Consul kept trying to find ways to kick Charlotte out of the institute and keep her from earning his title. He was so scared of a lady in power that he ignored all her warnings about Mortmain which was why they weren't able to stop the Clockwork Army from being created and how he inevitably died.

There were so many love stories that developed in this book. Jess and Tessa, Will and Tessa, Gideon and Sophie, Gabriel and Cecily. It was so wonderful to read into all their fears and joys around each other and it was especially nice to see Will and Tessa professing their love for each other both emotionally and physically. The physical part, though they didn't descirbe it all, was enough to make my romantic heart soar!

I enjoyed this book so much that I wouldn't mind reading the whole series over again and I'm sure I'd be just as thorougly pleased with it the second time as I am now. I only wish I could write a story that was up to the level that Clare writes! She is very descriptive and imaginative and I aspire to someday be able to weave a storyline just like she does! The Clockwork series is truly remarkable and I believe anyone who passes up the opportunity to read the Infernal Devices is TRULY missing out!
