BOOK REVIEW
THREE TO GET DEADLY - JANET EVANOVICH
This book totally deserves 5 stars!
I love Janet Evanovich books so much and this particular book knocked my socks off! The Comic aspect of it was absoutely superb. Each joke had me rolling on the floor laughing and I was especially close to laughter tears when poor Stephanie's hair turned orange! I feel her pain because it's happened to me too. Every single time I try to die my hair blonde it turns out orange...only Stephanie's hair was the result of her trying to chase down an FTA while her hair was still being done. It was quite amusing seeing everyone's reactions to her new do. So many startled looks...CLASSIC!
The FTA that Stephanie spends the most time chasing after is Mo, a candy/ice cream shop owner who has for his whole life been on the Burg's good side. So when she gets stuck chasing him down, pretty much every citezen treats her like a criminal for wanting to turn in Mo. But, as it turns out, Mo has kept a lot of dirty secrets. I thought at first that maybe he had just been set up and that some guys were forcing him to do things he didn't want to do but I was wrong. Old Mo actually had started his own kiddie porn business and had gotten himself in way over his head with the drug scene. Which is why he turned to The Freedom Church to help him get rid of a drug dealer that was causing a scene, BUT they murdered the guy instead of just scaring him away. And that Murder led to more which led Mo to being the prime suspect in a massacre of drug dealer killings. While he didn't expect anybody to be killed, he certainly hadn't gone straight to the police when he found out what they were doing, so he most certainly wasn't Mr. Innocent like the burg had painted him out to be
Lula really is an awesome side-kick. She knows how to put fear into skeevy mens minds. Like their interrogation of Dickie, Stephanie's ex, she freaked the hell out of that guy and nearly got him to piss his paints. The guy totally deserved it after what he did to Stephanie. I also liked Stephanie blackmailing him too. Lula and Stephanie make a really bitchin' partnership.
The same compliment goes to Ranger. He's KILLER! I am so glad I got to read more of him in this book. The first two he was hardly in at all. But he really made a huge impression in this book which satisifed my Ranger-loving heart. Lula was precisely correct when she described him as a superhero. And even more precise when she chose to think of him as Batman. The Dark Knight suits his status perfectly.
The Morelli and Stephanie action had me begging for more. Those two really know how to tease each other and the readers. I kept hoping constantly that the next page I read would have some Morelli and Stephanie action and whenever it did, I was like salivating, then they wouldn't go all the way because of some such interruption and I'd just start cursing at the book but then later have my appetite sated by more flirtiness and sexy action! I love these two so much!
I find Stephanie has learned a lot in so quick a time. She has had to deal with a lot in her life and it's no wonder that she's chosen to apprehend criminals over working in a factory. How exciting would it be to work in a factory? Plus she's getting steadily better at finding criminals and apprehending them. Sure she's no Ranger yet, but she's getting there thanks to his help.
I feel really sorry for her bad luck with automobiles. The truck she gets in this book is seriously crappy and keeps stalling and no matter how many times she brings it in it keeps crapping out on her. Then,, Morelli comes in as the hero of the day and gives her the number to his mechanic and then Stephanie is finally able to drive it only to get it blown up by the bad guys right after. Horrible luck.
I really enjoyed the storyline in this book mainly because of the whole "Dark Knight" vigilante theme. Although I don't approve of the way The Freedom Church went about it, I do sympathize with their cause. I certainly don't like them though. No one tries to kill Rex the Hamster and gets away with it. As demonstrated when Rex bit the guys hand and escaped. Rex is a little ninja in disguise!
I definitely reccomend Three to Get Deadly to anoyne who loves a murder mystery that is comedic as well as thrilling! Janet Evanovich is a genius and I adore her work so not only do I reccomend Three to Get Deadly, but I reccomend you read all the Stephanie Plum books. They ARE AMAZING!
