today my family and i went to the Morakami Museum and Gardens in west palm beach. it was quite beautiful. it made me a little bit sad, though. becuase well, the garden is man made. the exotics shown are not native to this this region--nevertheless, florida. also, the only Japanese people who worked there were the waiters/waitresses at the sushi cafe. i found that to be a little disturbing. but, the food was wonderful. go figure.
pictures in a bit.
my sister + mommy
scenery:
bridge over troubled waters.
a horse hitching post?
iguana!! he/she was beautiful, but not very oriental.
i like the angle of this one.
wishing well. i didn't make a wish...i need my pennies
fish frenzy. you should have seen them. they were abnormaly large in size, yet acted as if they hadn't eaten in weeks.
zen garden
these are my favorite. they are of part of the museum; a re-created japanese home. i was fascinated by the architecture and simplicity of the structure. it was so bare, but still maintained substance. we weren't allowed to wear shoes in that particular area, so they gave us little paper slippers to wear. i loved it.
i liked the floors. call me crazy.
the household zen garden. it is at the center, surrounded on four sides by the house itself.
in each of the four corners, there were these strands of water-catchers. apparently, when it rains the little cups spill over and make a water feature. i thought they were amazing.
