LAUREN,

1. Your story is hilariously illustrated, specifically your kneecaps, your careful attention to Abby's cheek mole, the sleeping masks, your slippers, Abby's mouth as she is "descending" the stairs and (I think...) the monkey(?) hanging from the tree in the last scene. IT IS BEAUTIFUL.
2. I was not a part of this Jungle Breakfast fiasco, but I was just laughing out loud at the fact that someone, probably Mrs. Cranford, had to attach breakfast foods to string and hang them from real life trees. We should do this at our final camporee and I am completely serious.
3. I know what you mean about the happy sad feeling. I wish I had been in the troop back in the day but at the same time we have done so many funny and ridiculous things in the past couple of years that it feels like I WAS there when you and Abby had to hunt for bagels in the woods. I can see your faces. Seriously. When I first joined I was out of the loop when it came to reminiscing about past camporees and such which is funny now because sometimes when we all get on a roll about what happened when I can’t remember if I was there or not.
4. The stronger emotion in my strange pang of panginess is happiness because if I hadn’t joined our troop I might not be friends with you (or Abby) which is a strange thing to think about because you are amazing and drew a story book and it is the greatest thing I have ever seen.
5. I hope that you are always moved to dance when you are extremely happy even when we are no longer girl scouts but instead elderly women in the nursing home playing Bingo for lotion.

And now for something that is both lame and true: I am so, so, so glad that we are friends.

Thank you for paying attention to the detail of my story. The object you surmise to be a monkey is actually a munchkin. In my work I like to allude to other artists... my hanging munchkin is a little shout out to The Wizard of Oz, a film which I admire.
