RED

Oguri Shun returns to the theater.
He will co-star of RED, a modern theatrical work (2009) written by John Logan (also known for having worked a lot with the cinema for movies such as The Gladiator, The Last Samurai, Sweeney Todd, The Aviator, Hugo Cabret, Skyfall).

The story is set in a study of New York in the years 50/60 and the artist Mark Rothko is having been commissioned to paint a group of murals for the expensive and exclusive Four Seasons restaurant. He gives orders to his assistant, Ken, as he mixes the paints, makes the frames, and paints the canvases. Ken, however, brashly questions Rothko's theories of art and his acceding to work on such a commercial project. For his part, Rothko dislikes the rise of Pop art.
Ultimately, Rothko stops working on the project and decides to return the money. He explains to Ken that the Four Seasons is an inappropriate place for his murals to be.

The work will be represented by the end of August until the beginning of October 2015 at the New National Theatre of Tokyo in the hall The Pit (a particular environment in which the plans are mobile and allow the stage to be moved, making theater an open space that fits different types of production).
It will be directed by Ogawa Eriko (a young woman who lately has earned a huge reputation as a director of contemporary foreign plays) and it will see in the lead role of Mark Rothko the actor Tanaka Tetsuji (for issues of age I suppose Ogurin will play the young assistant Ken, but roles may also be reversed ... who knows ^__^).

More information will be released later.
