The Whitest Place on Earth...
I've been telling people about how many white folks there are in Corbin and how there's not much of an ethnic mix. I felt the need to put some numbers to this, so I dug around on wikipedia...
As of the censusGR2 of 2000, there are 7,742 people, 3,308 households, and 2,067 families residing in the city. The population density is 403.9/km (1,045.8/mi). There are 3,704 housing units at an average density of 193.3/km (500.3/mi). The racial makeup of the city is 98.35% White, 0.08% African American, 0.18% Native American, 0.32% Asian, 0.01% Pacific Islander, 0.17% from other races, and 0.89% from two or more races. 0.79% of the population are Hispanic or Latino of any race.
That's for good ole' "Metro Corbin," which is a bit of an oxymoron. For those of you who don't know, there's a part of Corbin known simply as 'North Corbin.' This is where KFC is, the very first KFC. That is why the World Chicken Festival, thank God, is held in London rather than Corbin. North Corbin is considered a seperate entity from Corbin, in some respects, and is owned by Laurel County. For whatever reason, Corbin and Laurel county hate one another and the fued manifests itself in the instance of North Corbin. Laurel county forbids the annexation of North Corbin by Corbin via a 99 year injunction that is renewed every stinking year.
At any rate, it is generally agreed that if you're from 'North Corbin,' then you're from Corbin. The same goes with a few other little towns, but I didn't feel like pulling them up as the statistics are a bit redundant. Here's the ethnic breakdown for North Corbin.

The racial makeup of the CDP is 97.41% White, 0.06% African American, 0.60% Native American, 0.00% Asian, 0.24% Pacific Islander, 0.06% f rom other races, and 1.62% rom two or more races. 0.06% the population are Hispanic or Latino of any race.
So, in summation this place is whiter than the crowd at a KKK Grand Dragon's wedding reception. Amazingly enough there are no Asians in North Corbin, but there ARE Pacific Islanders. It depresses me as I like being around people of other cultures who I can learn things from IE how to say 'No, fuck your mother!' in a different language. But I digress.
The catalyst for this entry was a conversation with a nice Japanese fellow about religion, ethnic diversity, and our shared preference for non-white girls amidst a grand myriad of things. At any rate, it made me realize how much I, and most of my friends, don't really fit that well into the mainstream. I think I'm glad of that.
At any rate, I'm in Corbin for the week and if any one wants to hang out and knock over a bank or liquor store or something, just call. I'm going to be bored as hell in all likelyhood.
