ETPG and Me

Nov 23, 2005 18:51

Hey folks.  It's been a while since I have made a substantial update, but it isn't for lack of mentionable happenings.  I've just been really busy getting things straight for the move to campus next semester and all of that.  A lot of things are new, and I'll be covering a pretty long time frame with this entry so be prepared.  This is certainly going to be one of my longer entries.

I recently noticed, actually had it mentioned to me several times, that I entirely left out the weekend of November 5 and 6 then picked back up the following weekend in Lexington.  I meant to write about it, but it kept slipping my mind and with appointments and such it was difficult to find any time.  Thanksgiving break is finally providing such expendable allotments.

At any rate, November 6 was awesome.  It was the day that I went to EKU and received an award from Phi Kappa Phi for not screwing up for my first two semesters and, more importantly, the day that I met Lindsey.  The Phi Kappa Phi thing went relatively smoothly, aside from it occurring two hours previous to when I thought that it was scheduled to begin.  After the ceremony, mother was tired and I took her back home and drove back up to Richmond.  This time, for the sole purpose of meeting Lindsey.

I arrived at EKU sometime that was just after dark, I really can't remember the exact time...it's been a while.  Though receiving directions from Lindsey via the trusty LG "insert model name here", I still managed to get somewhat lost and ended up walking towards the Marathon station that sits just off of campus.  As luck would have it, McGregor hall was just behind me.  Thus, I set out and my short legs propelled my portly body forth as quickly as possible.  I stood outside the entrance of McGregor waiting for Lindsey to come down.  She said on the phone that it would be 'a couple of minutes' before she came down.  It was actually 14 minutes...but that's quite all right.

We went inside, and I gave my ID to the lady behind the desk and we set forth to Lindsey's dorm.  Here I learned one thing rather quickly.  Lindsey really likes leopard print.  Additionally I gained the knowledge that she won't look at someone when she is nervous about meeting them for the first time...and of course, this was cute.  She really is a beautiful girl.  Her self doubt seems to be grossly disproportionate since I know a lot of conceited people who are unattractive.  We hugged and made small talk until she got online and realized that today was her friend's, Laura, birthday.  She then called her friends and learned that they were all celebrating the occasion at Applebee's (which I keep thinking there are two of in Richmond for some reason).  It was quickly decided that we would join them there.

Now it was my turn to be nervous.  I was meeting her friends for the first time, and certainly did not desire to make an ass of myself for the first time meeting them.  This was all the more problematic because they were all different than I am.  I'm a long haired, hippy, metal head that drives an old Buick in disrepair and they are all, from observation, rather mainstream, well groomed, and middle to upper middle class (socio-economically speaking.)  However, I managed to make decent conversation and learned that Tim, Amber, Laura, and Dustin were all really likeable, nice people and that there would be no problems as far as compatibility among her friends and I.

I bought Lindsey a dessert, but I wasn't hungry, so I drank my diet coke and paid the nice waitress and we stood outside discussing just what we were going to do next.  No one really wanted to go to campus, but no one really had any ideas.  Finally I suggested that we all go to the adult store on the other side of town, the idea was met with much enthusiasm, and thus we all departed.  All, save Dustin who had left after the Applebee's affair.

Well, the adult store proved rather interesting.  Tim got his first glimpse inside the video arcade booths, and I got to laugh around with the group about absurd video titles and the such as Lindsey and I traded innuendos and such.  Eventually, however, we grew tired of the store and no longer wished to patronize the establishment.  It was decided that we would head back to campus and meet to play a board game at Combs Hall, where Tim lives.

After a slight delay, Lindsey and I made our way into Combs Hall's lobby (being let in by Tim's roommate..who is, from all impressions, a major league asshole) to find that the gang was already there and awaiting our arrival.  They had decided, and we agreed, to play Cranium.  Cranium is a game that I had never played before...and for good reason.  I was absolutely atrocious at it.  Damn my right-brainedness.

Lindsey forgave me for my horrible performance, and as the group dispersed we spent a significant amount of time lying on the steps going to the Combs building facing McGregor and cuddled.  It was beautiful.  The stars were out, Lindsey was in my arms, and my mind was at peace.  Eventually, however, I would have to leave and head back to Corbin as I had an appointment at 8 in the morning.  The loss of sleep was totally worth it.

As for the weekend of November 12 and 13, I kept everyone updated on that.  If you recall, that was the weekend that I was in Lexington with my good friend Hootie (aka Jen) and I found out that I was getting a poem published in Aurora.  That brings us to this past weekend.  November 19 and 20.  However, the whole thing truly began on November 17.

It was decided, a fairly long time ago, that I would be spending the weekend up on campus in Richmond with Lindsey and staying in her dorm.  Though a brief revocation of visitation rights for the KDT floor left the plans in limbo, I got word Thursday that everything was a go.  I briefly packed.  That is to say, I didn't pack anything at all, and I headed back to Richmond.

I got there, and it was dark again.  Luckily, I spotted Lindsey and her friends standing outside of the SSB where they had been observing a hypnotist's show that was orchestrated by an organization that Lindsey (aka Lindsers) belongs to.  This was my first introduction to Clarence, an interest of Tim's who is also a friend of Lindsey's and on a side-note, a really cool fellow.  Anyway, the whole ritual of deciding what to do was played out once more and eventually the plan became to go down to the basement of McGregor and to play a board game.  This time, I would kick ass.

The game was Trivial Pursuit: Pop Culture DVD edition.  Tim, Lindsey, and I were the best players and we all did really well.  Of course, Lindsers and I were teamed together and we would have won had everyone not gotten tired of playing and let someone else win.  I forget who.  However, that's neither here nor there.  I wasn't feeling that good, and I really wasn't acting as close to Lindsey as I should have been.  She noticed, although she never said anything about it.  Things got better, though.

We spent a lot of time up in Lindsey's room and got really close again; laughing, having fun, pseudo dancing, etc.  Everything was better.
Then, we went to Wal-Mart since I had forgotten to pack anything at all for whatever reason.  We picked up a tooth brush, some tooth paste, deodorant, and some Willy Wonka chocolate donut thingies and she got some makeup of some sort.  Anyway, I was now much more prepared than before.  We got back to the dorm, cuddled more, and eventually (at 3-ish in the morning) I persuaded Lindsey into being my girlfriend in spite of her suspicions that I would cheat given my trackrecord of douchebagness.  So, it was official..I had a girlfriend again and I couldn't have been happier.

Friday morning we woke up at about nine.  Then, of course, we went back to sleep, and ultimately got out of bed at 12-ish.  Lindsey had to get a homicide case to research for a paper (she's a Criminal Justice major), so we went to the Madison County Courthouse and scoured through some records on a case involving a shotgun shooting of a man whose name escapes me by his wife, Sharon Locke.  Quite interesting stuff.  Copies were .25 each....that's absurd.  But, as painful as it was, we paid for our thirty-six copies and made our way out of the court house.  We then sleepily meandered over to Taco-Bell and got some sustenance before heading back to campus.

I could regale you with further banal bits of minutia, but I will refrain.  The point is that I finally have someone that I am happy with and who really deserves me.  That sounded a little bit conceited, but it's true.  She really is worth the effort and the compromise and I can't wait to spend lots of time with her on campus in January, even if she does decide she just wants to be friends or whatever.    She's a really cool  girl, and her friends are all fantastic.  This is going to ease the transition A LOT

I miss her lots, right now though, as she is down in Fort Myers from Thanksgiving.  She seems to be having a really good time hanging out with friends and stuff down there, as I am up here as Michael and I have been hanging out semi-frequently.  I'm glad of both.
