Happy Birthday to Me!!!
Well, another year gone. I won’t miss it. But the payoff for surviving a year is that I get a birthday, which this is. Happy birthday to me! And to Justin, since we have the same birthday, only he’s eight years younger than me.
Anyway…gonna get just a very few good friends together tonight for drinks at the Union. We were gonna go other places, too, but Katy is bartending, so I’ll be anchored at the Union from about 9:00 on. Katy asked me last week what I wanted for my birthday. I said, “Just for you to be here.” She didn’t believe me, and asked me several more times. I always gave the same answer. She still doesn’t believe me, so she’s taking me out for a late birthday Chinese dinner on Thursday, which is also nice.
For tonight, though, before I hook up with all the folks, I’m going to dinner with my mom at Waffle House, the Happiest Place On Earth. So, I’ve got Waffle House and Katy and friends and whiskey and I can feel no sorrow. Very much love to all.
P.S. Tonight, at three seconds past two minutes past one, it will be 01:02:03 04/05/06. It’ll be a hundred years ‘til this happens again, so be sure to raise a glass tonight at the appropriate moment.
