Ghost World

Disastrous day, far too many hours long. Exhausted. Humiliated. Discouraged. Got off work at 4:00 in the morning with a splitting headache, had to drive back out to New Kent, a long haul. Played my “Trippy” playlist at max volume in direct spite of headache. As I passed all the abandoned factories and warehouses out east near the Fulton Gas Works, “Blue Bell Knoll” came on. Night, mood, feeling, setting, music combined to create…transcendence, a great swelling of soul and compressing of mind, an apocalyptic otherworldliness that I can only describe as a religious experience. It is strange how those things happen.

driving, pizza shop follies, music, zen, favorites, religion
