Kill'em all?

I've been watching the entirety of HBO's Oz lately, and it reminds me of not only how much I hate the US legal system, but the US punishment system. I'd much prefer a system akin to most Eastern countries, where capital punishment is a much more common result of terrible crimes. Now, I'm not preaching a full blown eye for an eye treatment, even though that would be amazing, but a way to scare people into rethinking commiting a violent crime. I don't remember where it was at the moment, but I've heard of a law where if at least 2 people witnessed the murder and can prove it beyond a reasonable doubt, the culprit is put to death the next week. None of this "let them stew in jail for 9 years" bullshit.

Additionally I'd love to see a reform on prison treatment, ideally, take away almost all thier rights. You are convicted of a crime a new stricter set of laws applies to you and your rights dwiddle down being free from oppression and being fed/clothed/housed. An example of the new prisoner laws is you commit a violent crime while in prison you are instantly sent to death row. Violent prisoners are 85% likely to get out eventually and just come back with another violent crime conviction. Those that can't get out due to no possibility of parole are 93% likely to commit more violent crimes in prison.

Much like how America cowers from Terrorists, the only thing we can do to stop hardened criminals is making punishment so horrendous that it will scare people out of breaking the law. It's so pathetic something like this needs to happen, but frankly, mankind just can't trust itself.
