As always, no good news without bad news.
I had an interview with Liquid Web on Tuesday, and I think it went well. They say they'll let me know in the next two weeks or so, and if I get the position it will start shortly after the New Year. Starting pay isn't what I hoped, but from everything I hear raises and promotions come fast at this company.
Stopped and visited with my friend Colleen at work after, and her co-worker is looking to rent out a very nice house in a great location (Magnolia right at Michigan Ave) for a very reasonable price. Score! I told her I was almost certainly interested, and to keep me in mind.
So, of course, my car had to fail catastrophically on the way back from Lansing. Major engine fault, per the dealership it needs a new engine, a minimum $3000 repair. Not only do I not have that, I still owe money on the car as well. I've contacted the finance company and my insurance company (not that this is covered, but to get the policy adjusted and premium delayed until I know what's going on), and am looking very hard for bottom-of-the-barrel vehicles.
Besides Craigslist, I think Charity Motors in Detroit should be my first stop. They specialize in getting low-cost vehicles to low-income folks, and I certainly qualify since I am collecting unemployment while supporting my roommate who is on disability. That probably has to wait until Monday, though, since Saturday is their auto auction and I don't think I want to wade into that particular tank of piranhas. Of course, I'm going to either have to find someone who can give me a ride from Ann Arbor to Detroit before 5PM or I'm going to have to rent a car for a day and spend more money I can't really afford.
So, to sum up, I 'm waiting for Liquid Web, a possible landlord, GMAC's charge-off people to go take a look at the car at the dealership, said dealership to call me back to let me know what I owe for the examination they did and to let me know if the car can be driven short distances or if it has to be towed out of there, Monday to roll around so I can make some progress with Charity Motors, and unemployment check on Wed. Fun. I'm stressed but can deal, but the roommate is going crazy stuck here with no vehicle.
So, oh beloved friends list, I don't suppose any of you or your associates are trying to sell a working vehicle for $1200 or less, are you? Somewhere in the general SE Michigan vicinity? Please?
