I had a very nice time at Mi No Hi this weekend. Except for having only two hours sleep and trying to get there on impossible directions, and having no 'SCA' signs to guide us. The fighting was fine to watch, Robert, Shiro and Saiaiko killed a bunch of people, and folks seemed to like my spear class. The Japanese court I designed and scripted and went off very nicely. Even SOLVIEG said it was good, and when she said that I nearly plotzed. The iron fans I made as prizes for the spear tourney were well received, and that was nice.
A highlight of the day for me (and I know this is a little sad) was I got to go outside and beat the snot out of some poor kid to try to get his attention. I had a nice chat with him afterward in an attempt to expand his world view. You cast the little seeds, and sometimes they grow.
There was a small problem with Solvieg's very public meltdown, but Saiaiko and I took care of it pretty quickly. She's actually not bad to deal with, once you figure out her internal logic.
The downside to the whole event for me was exhaustion. To quote Bageera from Kipling's 'Jungle Book,' "I am not of the tribe that can hunt all night and howl all day." Not any more, at least. I was so wiped out that on the way home I had Becky pull to the side of the road because I thought I was going to vomit. But today I felt just fine. I cleaned the kitchen, organized (sort of) the DVDs on a new rack (Thanks, *Baroness* Karen!), and connected with an old friend on Facebook.
A pretty darned good day, all told.
