Once Carlisle has finished speaking and everyone starts to mingle and split off, Leela trots up to him and offers a hand.

"Turanga Leela, Third Base, reporting for duty!"

They say first impressions are important, you know.

"Nice to meet you..." Carlisle looks up, "Do you prefer Turanga or Leela?"

"Leela," she nods.

"Leela, fantastic." Carlisle checks off her name on his roster, giving Leela a good once-over.

"Have you ever played baseball before?"

She's used to getting once-overs, which means she straightens her shoulders and puts her hands on her hips to give an air of strength (to make up for the whole one-eye business).

"Not your traditional baseball, but I've had it explained to me before. But I am retired from professional blernsball."

A professional smile, but a sincere one. He moves on.

(People don't like it when you stare, Carlisle.)

"Great. If you'd like, I can run some drills with you. Is there anything you'd like to work on specifically?"

He is kind of... aloof, but Leela's from New New York. That's pretty typical behavior.

"I'm game, Captain. A refresher on the basic mechanics of the game would be helpful, and, uh... I used to pitch, so I am by no means deficient, but... I have a little issue with depth perception."

She points to that eye. You know, just in case you missed it, Carlisle.

"I'm sure we can figure out something as a reminder of the rules and such. Meg made up a great explanation of what we've changed to accommodate the more unusual characteristics and abilities in Milliways so that should be helpful."

Ah, yes. The whole cyclops bit.

"Do you mind if we start with throwing drills then? That way I can have an idea of what other members of the team should be aware of." Adjusting quickly, "I've got one team member that spontaneously turns into a duck. There are a lot of modifications going on, trust me."

"I'll be sure to ask her for a copy," Leela nods.

She doesn't take offense immediately -- after all, she's been the butt of jokes her whole life. The duck thing gets a blink and a smirk out of her, though.

"Don't worry. I did take lessons from Hank Aaron, so I'm ready for whatever you can throw at me."

Beat.

"Uh, no pun intended."

Carlisle's eyes widen as he had been reaching for a ball to start throwing, dropping the ball again into the bucket at his side.

"A...Hank Aaron? The Hank Aaron?"

Leela might be Carlisle's new best friend.

"A Hank Aaron!" she says, trying not to look shifty.

Okay, if we're being totally honest? It was Hank Aaron the Twenty-Fourth, a distant relative of the Hank Aaron and, er, the second worst blernsball player of all time.

Next to Leela.

Yeah.

But! The two conversations she had with the Hank Aaron's head in a jar were career changing! Really!

Ahem.

:D?
