Okay so, I got you two presents, and they are both metaphors. I'm sorry, I know you are not good at them, but you won't get better if you don't practice. Like me and the SAT analogies.
So the first thing I got you is a cactus. It is for your apartment. It is good to have living things in your house but I know you probably are pretty busy and maybe don't have a lot of experience taking care of plants. That is why a cactus is great! They are hard to kill. And have spikes.
The other gift is a knife. It matches the knife Helen gave me in September, but in a different color. It is important for friends to have stuff that matches, trust me on this. It is a really good knife (duh, it was Helen's) but it's also pretty.
I know, RIGHT NOW, you are thinking, "Rose, that is silly. It is not relevant if the knife is pretty." You are, aren't you? But it totally is.
My knife was Helen's before she gave it to me. And it's totally pretty. Isn't that weird? Was there a time when Helen went into, like, the knife store and said, "Hello, I am badass but also a girl, find me your prettiest knife?" Or was it a present? I don't know! But it tells me something about Helen and her past before things got all sucky for her.
Also, she gave it to me. She could've given me any tacky-looking knife, but she gave me one that is effective but also kind of cute. I think that shows that secretly she likes me more than she pretends, because she gave me one she knew I would like.
See, the stuff people have tells us a lot about them. You probably already know that but don't think about it when it comes to you. Helen told me a chant they use in the army: "This is my rifle. There are many like it but this one is mine."
Well, this is your knife. There are many like it, but this one is yours. It is a weapon, but it is a weapon with ~*personality*~. It is pretty, but also really good at killing stuff. It is very simple and straightforward, in black and silver. And it matches mine, but not completely.
