Fandom and A Bit of Everything

YES! It is time for paperlegends and I am PSYCHED! If you haven't signed up - sign up NOW!

Also, just a reminder tomorrow is the start of the merlin_forever's live re-watch! You can join the festivities tomorrow 9pm GMT (or 4pm EST as is my case!). Check out the community, and even if you aren't able to do the live re-watch there will be tons of other things happening over there to keep an eye out for!

♥ Let's Celebrate Merlin! ♥

I am pretty close to my co-worker, both in an emotional and literal sense (our desks are squished beside each other), and we have recently reached that level of closeness that I open up the flood gates and all my nerdiness/fandom habits come tumbling out.It all started a week ago when we were in a really boring meeting that neither one of us had anything to do with the project the meeting was about. I, as I always do when I'm bored, was writing down a scene idea I had for my paperlegends fic. She asked me what I was doing, and then of course asked what the hell a paperlegend was, followed by what a fandom was, followed by "what the hell is a fanfic?"

I have corrected this obvious oversight in her education and she's now caught up on OTPs, fanfic, bigbang challenges, livejournal communities, and the like (though since she hates all fantasy/sci fi/"unbelievable" shows - she still does not really understand how so many people from all around the world could possibly be so passionate about make believe characters that we would create art, fics, and creative works for nothing other than our sheer enjoyment). It's been a lot of fun talking to her about it. I don't have many irl friends who are active in fandoms (actually I have one, Kourtney and I became friends at the age of twelve when we were forced to sit next to each other in math class and noticed we were both writing Lord of the Ring fanfiction - it was instantaneous best friendship). I am used to having to explain certain terms or explaining why I am writing what for what comm? My co-worker is now fascinated by it all, and keeps asking me for updates on my fanfiction.

And finally, I made my first animated gif today! Ironically it's not at all fandom related, but for work. We're launching our online database for Hillcrest Cemetery (click this link to see the database I've been slaving over the past couple of days getting ready for it's launch) and we're doing a presentation next Monday in front of Town Council, so I created a gif of the website to be in the slide show!
