Apr 24, 2008 20:16

The rapidly approaching end of semester, and considerations for the upcoming summer term, had occupied most of Mohinder's attention. Trying to mark his class' finals had not gone well; his concentration had lapsed, drifting in any and all directions ( Read more... )

Sometime after getting off work, Fraser wandered down with...a lot of laundry and decided he really needed to start doing this more regularly.

When he noticed he wasn't alone, he smiled and nodded. "Good afternoon."

"Good day," Mohinder replied with a smile, eyes flicking to Fraser's load. "I suppose I needn't ask if you come here often."

He flushed, awkward. "I'm sorry, I didn't mean to imply anything untoward."

"I took no offense," he said and shook his head. "The truth is, I don't. And I usually wouldn't call myself lazy but I appear to be ignoring laundry in deference to other things as of late."

"The mundane losing ground to the fantastic?" asked Mohinder. "Or - as for me - and it has been quiet lately, just the putting off a dull task?"

"The latter," he laughed, stuffing a few pieces of clothing into a washer. "Well, and I also have a new puppy who takes up quite a lot of time. I haven't had something that young in years and I'd forgotten the attention they need."

Mohinder nodded and drummed his fingers against his machine, then, said with a grin. "I would wish laundry be made more interesting, but I'd fear for the consequences."

"I hope your puppy is usually puppy-shaped," he added.

"He's very puppy shaped and very hyperactive," Fraser said, laughing. "You're a member of the faculty, correct? I believe I've seen you in passing but we haven't been formally introduced introduced. I'm Benton Fraser, head of school security."

"I am." Mohinder hopped down from his perch and offered his hand. "Mohinder Suresh. Latterly from New York and currently teaching at Fandom."

"Ah, Professor Suresh," he said, smiling a little. "Yes, I've heard your name a few times on the radio. How have your classes been this semester?"

"Nothing too bad I hope," rejoined Mohinder, "The squirrels generally seem to be remarkably well informed." He shrugged amiably at the question. "Well enough I believe. Both the students and I are in one piece, and I think we've all learned something."

"No, nothing too bad," he said. "Though, I am used to their brand of news so I tend to take even the bad as gentle mockery. And I'm glad to hear the classes are going well. Will you be staying for the summer term?"

"I may take some time to visit home," said Mohinder, thinking of New York. "But yes, I plan to continue teaching this summer."

"I know someone from New York," he said, nodding. "I don't know if you've met her but she said she wanted to meet you on the radio several months back."

He remembered that little radio nickname the squirrels had seemingly given poor Mohinder.

"I don't think so." Mohinder tilted his head, he didn't usually try to remember listening to the radio. "I don't recall that broadcast. Most people seem to have made their way here from much further afield, in time as well as distance."

"I only remember because she and her co-broadcaster called you His Hotness," Fraser said, smiling at the name. "And I teased her about it."

"Ah," Mohinder nodded. "I must have missed that one." And would continue to exercise a certain transitory deafness when it came to the radio.
