Mohinder was glad of his spare set of keys, he'd left the originals in his other body - presumably wandering somewhere in Fandom. He'd had a chance to clean up - still a trace of awkwardness in limbs that didn't quite fit - before he headed up to the roof.
Laptop balanced on knees - he might part with his body, but even Mohinder had his limits - he was on a roof that thankfully appeared free of pirates. Perhaps they didn't like heights? Mohinder shifted, tucking one leg under the other until he was sprawled comfortably and...
His cell phone rang.
Mohinder
"Hello?" Mohinder's voice? Still sounded odd to him.
Bob
"Good afternoon," Bob's voice almost shone with professionalism. "I'd like to speak to Dr Suresh, please."
Mohinder. Really.
"I'm here," Mohinder answered. The company. He flailed with his other hand until it landed on pen and paper.
Trying to be diplomatic.
"If the doctor is otherwise occupied," said Bob, without inflection. It was amazing how many possibilities such a small phrase covered, and several of those were being noted in Mohinder's file. "Tell him we need to get in touch as soon as possible."
I am me. Mostly me.
"I'm telling you, I am Mohinder Suresh," Mohinder insisted, more loudly than he'd intended. He gave a short barked laugh.
"I just never considered how to prove it before."
Waiting for the admission.
"Regardless of the unusual state of Dr Suresh's hire, the company has no interest in his..." Bob paused for thought, jotting down leverage? Parkman? "...extra-curricular activities. But we need to speak to him."
Not sleeping with himself.
"That's reassuring to hear," replied Mohinder dryly, eyes rolling. "If irrelevant to the situation."
He rubbed his brow, saying almost to himself, "There should be some kind of identifying codewords." For the outside world at least.
Hasn't seen this before.
"We'll take it under consideration," Bob told the man on the other telephone.
He traced a helix against the desk. Some kind of appearance modifier? Auditory as well as, presumably, visual. Suresh's blood hadn't shown any of the common markers, not that that had been the focus of the bloodwork, still the possibility... "When did you realise this ability, doctor?"
Still unpowered (but kinda hot)
"Oh, it isn't a special ability," Mohinder's explanation fell out in a tumble of words, "At least in that sense. It's more of an experiment. I'm not sure of the details, but there's a transference mediated by some kind of fluid and..."
Bob
"I'm sure that's something we'll be interested in," Bob interrupted.
Mohinder
Mohinder's - or Geoffrey's - jaw slammed shut. He wasn't sure exactly what the company knew about the island or it's inhabitants; he'd told them little enough, but...
Bob, with company hat on.
"And we have given you as much latitude as possible, but I need you to focus on your assignment, Dr Suresh." Mohinder heard shuffling papers on the other end of the line.
Mohinder.
"And what assignment is that?"
Bob.
"One suited for your particular talents. We believe there's been another case," Bob told him soberly. "In Haiti, this time. We have to stop it before there's any risk of it spreading."
Mohinder - virus canary.
"As soon as I can."
Mohinder looked own at his hands, heavier and paler than usual, and mentally added - however soon that might be.
Bob. Travel agent.
"The company will help with any paperwork, once the case is confirmed," Bob told him. "We have the resources to hurry that. And doctor?"
A valuable resource.
"Yes?"
And a conservationist.
"Remember you have the only cure for this virus," Bob reminded him. "Try not to get yourself killed."
After an exchange arranging the sending of files - Bob insisting on paper copies, still cautious as to Mohinder's identity or sanity - he looked thoughtfully at the closed cell phone. He'd be seeing Haiti itself in a few days. Unless, hopefully, it was a false alarm. Bob would search out more details than the country to identify the victim, but until then Mohinder had work to concentrate on...
He lurched up, just missing a miniature pirate who barrelled, sword outstretched, past Mohinder in search of the fire escape's plunder.
...and pirates to avoid.
[Kinda establishy, but also open to any roof wandering peeps if they want, vague resemblance to part of Lizards intended, Broadcast & OOC AOK etc]
