If you've been anywhere near my eljay in the past month or so, you're probably well aware of how much I've lost any sembelence of sanity that I had before... and it's all down to this one miniseries called Band Of Brothers. When I started watching this, I don't think I was quite ready for what it was going to do to me. I wasn't fully warned about all the feelings and embarassing hormones and overly emotional reactions it manages to pull out of me just by thinking about it. I think I'm finally at a point where I have to take a step back because my brain's going to overload from it all but, you know when things get under your skin that much that you need to put music to it? This was one of those times.
I'm feeling kind of weird about this mix, I think it's because I only started making it two weeks ago. I have about 20 unfinished playlists on my iTunes right now because I can hardly ever finish mixes and when I do, they need to be there a long time so I can properly think about them. I can't keep this one in for any longer. I got kind of strange about it and stressed and now I just need to sort of exorsize it before it turns into something even bigger in my mind than it already is. (Throughout the time I was making this thing I spazzed quite regularly to
j_p_fan about everything (tone/lyrics/flow) and she was awesome and talented enough to make the coverart for it, which is quite frankly gorgeous - ily Anna ♥) I really just need to get this thing out of my system. So, that's what I diiid.
This mix is just about Easy Company as a whole, as unit, a body of one, a Band Of Brothers. Oh, soldiers.
Men, it's been a long war, it's been a tough war. You've fought bravely, proudly for your country. You're a special group. You've found in one another a bond, that exists only in combat, among brothers. You've shared foxholes, held each other in dire moments. You've seen death and suffered together. I'm proud to have served with each and every one of you. You all deserve long and happy lives in peace.
01. all is violent, all is bright - god is an astronaut
instrumental.
02. war all the time - thursday
we grew up too fast, falling apart / like the ashes of american flags / and we’re blowing in the wind / we don’t know where to land.
03. leaders of the free world - elbow
but the leaders of the free world / are just little boys throwing stones / and it's easy to ignore / till they're knocking on the door of your homes / passing the gun from father to feckless son / we're climbing a landslide where only the good die young.
04. to the lighthouse - patrick wolf
now the bombs drop around our feet / do we throw them back / or bow and greet them? / everyone now, is so terrified / of the glowing dark / and those orange skies.
05. the velocity of paul at the time of his conversion - okkervil river
and all our best-laid plans, well, they crumbled in our hands / our flags fell where they'd fanned / you held in your breath long after projections of death / you sat in the waiting rasping and gasped on dry land / but the audience is tired, we've had enough fire / we're entering the age now of ice.
06. empty space - air traffic
there's chaos everywhere / and panic written on the air / that everyone is breathing / and crushing light of day / pain will never wash away / fear will never leave.
07. no one would riot for less - bright eyes
little soldier, little insect, you know war it has no heart / it will kill you in the sunshine, or happily in the dark / where kindness is a card game, or a bent up cigarette / in the trenches, in the hard rain, with a bullet and a bet.
08. bulletproof.. i wish i was - radiohead
limb by limb and tooth by tooth / tearing up inside of me / every day every hour / i wish that i was bullet proof.
09. (that’s how you sing) amazing grace - jamie barnes
oh, can you hear that sweet sweet sound / yeah, i was lost but now i'm found / sometimes there's nothing left to save / that's how you sing amazing grace.
10. paths of victory - cat power
trails of trouble / roads of battle / paths of victory / we shall walk.
11. forever after days - the national
heroes come the common way / pull myself into the sky / wrap me in the banner i made / on my feet i stand tonight / stand alone inside the air / an extraordinary man / everything stops and holds me there.
12. bang your drum - wolf parade
it's cold, it's dark / it's not for people with uneasy hearts / but if you're with me on the other side / strike up the band, we have survived.
.zip (includes .txt file so the songs are in the right order - i made it sort of ~chronological~ and also because i think this way is the way that the tracks flow/transition the best as well. just so to file > library > import playlist to add it.)
