This paper argues the decentralized nature of Bit Torrent promotes altruism among Bit Torrent users, and that this altruism, not Bit Torrent's tit-for-tat design, is what has caused its success. It concludes that the rise of Bit Torrent meta-search sites will increase free-riders.
