- I made butternut squash soup on Sunday. It was delicious, but to my chagrin, it tasted nearly exactly like my favorite brand, Pacific Organics. It was both frustrating and empowering - empowering because it was delicious and made from scratch. Frustrating because I could have gone out and bought soup and saved myself some hassle, even though it was even easier than I was expecting (minus creating a mountain of dishes to wash). Now I have soup to go wtih my salad today, which is nice.

- blergeatkitty and I are going to see Bloody Bloody Andrew Jackson on Broadway tonight. I'm very excited. There need to be more rock musicals about presidents. (Perhaps a jukebox musical about JFK featuring The Dead Kennedys? Maybe that would work?)

- Speaking of Things That Rock, I caught the absolutely incredible Springsteen documentary over the weekend. The Promise is about the making of my very very favorite Bruce Springsteen album (Darkness on the Edge of Town) as well as going deeply into Bruce's songcraft process and his life at the time as well as providing perspective from his bandmates regarding all of these things. That part was fascinating. What I had apparently forgotten in the interim years since The Great Springsteen Obsession of 1992-1993 was how absolutely blisteringly hot he was when he was younger. The documentary has a lot video, as they apparently documented every recording or rehersal session they could on video at the time. (Bonus lulz include the MASSIVE fro Bruce had at some point. Seriously, dude looked like Epstein from Welcome Back Kotter.) It also re-ignited my love of Darkness, which I've been listening to on and off all weekend. It's still wrenching, sexy, devastating, beautiful and brilliant. "Factory" remains a terrible song, despite this. After hearing parts of the song "The Promise" in the documentary, I think that should have been included, and "Factory" in the B-side pile, but due to not being born yet, no one consulted me. *shakes head* I want the new special-edition boxed set. I want it a lot.

- I tried to make a Springsteen station on Pandora. I thought it might be fun to mix in some Gaslight Anthem and U2. So far I've gotten one Springsteen song, 3 U2 songs, 2 Gaslight songs, and a bunch of stuff that is perplexing. Then I switched to my ipod, which is better.

-Watch the phenomenal new BBC Series Sherlock Holmes online! I have seen 2 of the 3 episodes, and this show is just amazing. It beats the recent movies by leaps and bounds. It's smart, it's funny, and it's possibly one of the very best examples of how you can adapt something well - keep the spirit alive, but bring it into a new century. <3 (big ups to airspaniel for turning me on to it!)

- The Bumblebee dies anyway. At least now that they know what's happening, they can work on fixing what's happening.

- Paladino is now denying he made horribly homophobic remarks. Despite the video (and I'm pretty sure there was a video, right?). He's using the time-honored "I have a ____ friend/relative" excuse. (Could this guy be more odious? I'm waiting to find out.)

- I called it, volume #438943: There IS a fifth Steig Larsson book from the Girl With... series, nearly complete, but the family won't allow it released. ("Yet." Cynical Publishing Girl says.) It may be complete rubbish, and Larsson may have been the kind of person who needed many rewrites to get something good, but I highly doubt that they won't cave to releasing this at some point. Too lucrative.
