goodbye 2012
you've been swell
don't forget
to wind and set
your watches time
so it won't rewind
goodbye friends
old and new
the merry magic scent of youth
the way our flesh glowed like wax
burned from both sides
so the wick went fast
if i could turn the dial around
spinning spinning until
childhood was found
i would curl up and stay still
but instead i must press
forward and upward
toward the top of the hill
where many a climber has
fallen off of the world
and what of the sad trek down?
must it be so hopelessly bound
to old aches, old shakes and bad eyes
must old age be misery to the wise?
i prefer a certain glee
in sullen downward trot
the way we must go
the proper way to become forgot
certainly slow down your pace
no need to rush like its a race
take your time and look around
because once you reach the ground
there's no chance to turn back around
