forget the sagging flesh
i once saw a mind so agile and fresh
it condemned my eyes to repeated lies
and revealed the world as a petridish
forget your travels
or the magic stool that swivels
or the worn gown made of hand-me-down
it is thrift that always prevails
forget the sound
of the musical notes found
how they charged the dirge to march
like a soldier's bulletshell crown
forget your face
like you forged outer space
in a tin can ship soda can sip
with the gravity sucked out of place
remember the road
it always forgives what you owe
gives you miles and rest stop smiles
and plenty of lines to follow
